leo kottke? good taste. i don't know hardly any 14 year olds who listen to that. actually, i hardly know any 14 year olds. i can't even name one. i had to patch up a really ****ed up 14 year old girl at a party last night, but i have no idea who she is...and i didn't think to ask her about leo kottke, but she seemed sort of stupid, so i'm guessing she'd be clueless about him.

i'm actually doing 2. one is sort of all live performances and should be out on LOAD records in march as a double DVD.
the other is a conceptual film that'll likely have a limited theatrical release and be done sometime in 2007. i'd imagine that the conceptual one would explain things more. noise is great... especially if you start it chronologically with artaud, duchamp and the fluxus guys, then go thru the soundpoet/musique concret thing, thru to no wave and into modern "noise".

hmmm...i see. i'll have to definitely check it out. what are they called?
my thing with noise is...well, i'll put it like this. i like free jazz, like the ornette coleman double quartet, because out of the chaos comes order, melody, music. with noise, that doesn't happen...sometimes the noise sounds pretty cool, but after a few minutes, i start wishing the order would come from the chaos as with free jazz. with some stuff, i've heard that. i forget the grindcore band that did some noise remixes of their stuff, but they worked patterns and rhythms into it.
as far as just straight noise, though, perhaps i can see it as sort of a social commentary...sort of the musical counterpart of the modernist movement of the earlier part of the century, though it would also make sense if in that light, it'd be stripped down to an anti-technological sound, rather than an electronic sound.
but i'd like to hear more about this.

Noise is more of an experience. I have probably been to twice as many noise shows than all other genres combined. However I only own a handful of recordings, and I don't listen to them that much. many people consider bands like Hella and Lightning Bolt to be noise, but I'd call that rock, in my opinion. So, yeah, I'm talking straight noise here. If you go to a noise show, you will likely find improv, being played too. I think you would get into it if you saw it played live, and go several times. It is exciting to see performers evolve. I used to live in Rochester, NY and saw a band called Pengo play more times than I can remember. It was different every time. I also saw a guy from Australia play with a contact mike and a piece of glass perform twice, but a year apart. Very different shows each time.

Oh yeah, I find a lot of it boring too. I wrongfully assumed you had only heard recordings, and thats why you didn't dig it. Hearing loss is never worth a mediocre show, although I generally travel with ear plugs now.
