BMX - primo flipflop hub noise

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
my mates's primo flipflop hub makes a noice like (and i quote) "a cat crawling around on a glass window, howling like its seeing death first hand in slow motion". any ideas why? he swears blind that the axle is fine and that there is no dirt in it. he won't let me check it out, even though i am known to be a competent bike mechanic. any ideas on what the source of the noise could be?

freewheels have bearing in then too you know, and I wouldn't be judging how much i know because you don't even have a clue. Besides, where does insulting someone over the internet get you unless its a completly ******** post. You're only demeaning youself

the problem was either your solution or mine...i was being sarcastic because i didnt know what the hell seized bearings were (im guessing it means there like crushed inside the races)

ohh, didn't know. Anyway, yeah seized bearings are like locked up from rust or broken balls or anything that could be jammin' them up.

best advice you could give your friend is to not ride it. anytime you hear a strange noice that dosent sound good Stop riding and check it out, or if you donty know how to check it out take it to your lbs right away. If you keep riding that could screw things up even more. It's better to just have to get new bearings then a whole new hub cause you didn't stop riding and got it fu*ked up. i learned that the hard way with my ex girlfriends bike. haha, luckly the bike was on waranty. It was only a week old went the bearings went in the hub, probly a manufacturing error. it work out well for us because the lbs put on a whole new rim instead of just a new hub and the new rim was a 48h, the old one was 36h.
thats what happend to my front wheel......except i never found out the problem and just bought a new front wheel because mine sucked anyways.
