Down at my lbs I noticed a number of bikes are fitted with Truvativ components. Never rode a bike with them, and they were fitted to bikes of varying price ranges. Are they lower/higher than Shimano in the grand order?

It's Truativ all over the place!

I know that Kona bikes are using their products, (or they were a couple of years ago), and they seem pretty sturdy.

Not too sure how they compare to Shimano cranks, but it's good to know there's an alternative to the big S!

Truvative makes good stuff. I've got Stylo cranks on one of my MTB's. Not sure about how the lines compare. I would think the Stylo is close to the XT, and the Hussefelt, (sp?) is more like XTR.

Not as nice as Shimano, but considerable less $$$$. It's very nice, and works well. As far as the Hussefelt = to XTR. NO WAY! The Hussy is a DH specific crank. Strong and heavy. XTR is strong, but light!

For freeriding and dh the hussletfelt (sp) is awesome. It supports my weight and riding style which is impressive. :)...I would definately consider buying a crank by them again. I would never get a bb by them again though. Definately swap any truvativ bb for a raceface. :)

and yes kona still does have a lot of truvativ's stuff on their bikes. :)

Another company worth checking out is FSA. I have FSA road cranks on my RB and Race Face cranks on my MTB. I suspect that many Canadian bikes are coming out with Trutativ cranks because Trutativ is a Canadian company. This is not a bad thing, I'm all for that. If products are comparable in price and performance then why not choose the more local brand? BTW, FSA is homed just outside Seattle and Race Face is a BC company.

Specialized has Truvativ on HardRocks this year rather than using stock stuff, which suprised me. I've got Truvativ cranks and have had no problems. They are a great alternative to Shimano,FSA, and RaceFace, which are all very expensive. Truvativ isn't "cheap", but they do have some prices that don't bring as many tears.

I have a saguaro with truativ 5d cranks on it and so far i havent had any problems yet with it, it seems pretty strong and works good so id say that they are an equal alternative to shimano, fsa or race face
