I used to be into Pink Floyd a lot more than I am now, as music tastes evolve, but I am listening to the live Ummagumma album and so the thought crossed my mind.

I always have a difficult time deciding, for a song begins to lose its appeal after you hear it countless times. Though I say that I really appreciate what they did in Echoes, on the album Meddle. Echoes really takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions, with some great bass lines.

But I also love Cirrus Minor from the soundtrack album More, and Grantchester Meadows from Ummagumma studio album.

As with most talented bands I can't really pick a favorite song, but looking at my media player song play counter, Time is the winner, ringing in at 37 plays.

Time, a great song. There are two great symphonic versions on the album Us and Them, a symphonic tribute to mostly Dark Side of the Moon stuff.

Dogs and Shine on you Crazy Diamond (all parts)

A man of good taste! :D

1. Dogs
2. Shine on you Crazy Diamond (I had always wondered if they would re-release that on CD with all the parts consecutive).

Animals and WYWH are their best two albums, head and shoulders above the rest in my mind.

I agree.

They did combine parts 1-7 as one track on the Echo's-The Very Best of Pink Floyd double CD box set.

Hard to choose. Us and Them, SOYCD perhaps.

The Wall keeps growing on me even though I really didn't like it when it first came out.

Ok. I love this thread already. For eng I did a song annotating essay on when the tigers broke free. OMG i love that song. Such meaning and depth to the song too. One thing I love about PF is that they have such meaningful lyrics, with such awesome guitar lines. One of the all time greatest bands ever. I also stumbled upon the publius enigma of the division bell. I happen to believe the theory that TDB was a self tribute to the days of pink floyd. And I have to say David made a awesome album without roger. With that being said, roger also wrote some also songs. SO here are my fav PF songs.
When the tigers broke free(from "the wall" movie and on echoes)
Keep talking
Lost for words
On the turning away
In the flesh
Brain damage
Wish you were here

could go on forever, there so awesome.

... as an aside, who here has seen them live?
I saw them in Raleigh in 1994 on The Division Bell tour

That's a wild story. For anyone that's a PF fan and isn't up on it, google "publius enigma" and pink floyd and read up on it.

I haven't been keeping up with it too much but I got the feeling that PE was Douglas Adams.

Cannot pick, though I do have to say my house is starting to sound like the intro to Time these days. I've inherited half my father's collection of antique clocks; with 4 running now the tics & tocks echo through the house, with gongs going off avery 10 to 15 minutes (its difficult to keep them all on time).

If you're going to argue for all parts of shine-on, why not just call Wish You Were Here one multipart song? the 3 in the middle sure aren't bad...

Least favorite is money... i cant stand it.

Not really my favorite song but appropiate for the forum.

Bike

I've got a bike.
You can ride it if you like.
It's got a basket, a bell that rings,
and things to make it look good.
I'd give it to you if I could, but I borrowed it.

You're the kind of girl that fits in with my world.
I'll give you anything, everything, if you want things.

album - Piper at the gates of dawn (syd barret). This is Floyd's first album and is really great, check it out if you haven't already.

I saw them on the same tour. I took my Dad who's a huge fan. I paid scalper prices for 3rd row from the stage seats at RFK in DC. Worth every penny.

I saw them in 1987 on the Momentary Lapse of Reason tour at JFK. I was a little skeptical going into it (I'm pretty sure this was their first non Roger Waters tour) but it was an incredible show. I've always been much more of a David Gilmour fan anyway.

I saw them on the same tour and at the same venue. didn't pay scalper prices though, but I also didn't need to because I had got the show started in the parking lot before the gates opened.

In what way? I think the wall is a classic(despite whatever anyone says)TBD, and momentary lapse of reason. In particular,TBD has such a meaning and story behind it most will never know or care to find out. I think without waters gilmour wrote the most meaningful lines with such awesome guitar parts. In my opinion, its way better than the sick stuff syd put out. Now keep in mind, all were really good, but I thought these were there best. Plus, The Wall, had such a story behind it of waters life, listen to the song, "mother" its all about how his mother was over protective, and he comes to realize she build the wall too high, his barrier to the outside.

The live versions of "Astronomy Domine" and "Set the Controls For the Heart of the Sun". Forget which album. Which albums had Syd Barret on guitar?

For music geeks out there, the coolest thing is the weird 7/8 time signature on that (and the time signature switch during the solo).

Probably "Nobody Home". That song, if I remember correctly, is exquisite. I'm not even sure if that's the name of it. The Wall was the first floyd album I ever heard, and that song's always been my fav though I don't listen to them these days. ;)

Favorite? Wow, tough one. I really like "Marooned" from Division Bell, almost like a continuous guitar solo. I also like the entire Amused to Death album by Waters. Not Floyd, I know, but I love it just the same. After that, the whole Animals album.

Geez, now I gotta go turn on the TT.
