This is really weird.

i would guess the color part of the test works like this: Red is a stimulating color. and since quick thinking math tests make most people anxious and on edge, it would make sense that the color red would pop into their mind first after completing the test (as opposed to blue, for example, which is usually associated with relaxation).

now explain the hammer part

Red hammer. Damn, I hate to be normal. But maybe I'm not really, since so far only 4 out of 20 (5 counting me) have admitted to red hammer.

When asked to name a color most people will say red.

When asked to name a tool MOST people will say "hammer" because that's the only tool they're familiar with.

The "test" has nothing to do with it.

BTW - Blue Wrench. Like a large number of cyclists I actually use tools and a hammer is not often used unless I'm working on a Huffy.
