Hello:

I am using a heart rate monitor that picks up the beat and transfers the signal to my wristwatch. While using the eliptical machine the heart rate monitor on that machine is picking up the signal as well but the reading is not the same as the one on my wrist. The caloric counter is different by a long shot but the heart beats register the same on both. Whats up?

This is just a guess Terry. It may be tht one has your correct weight programmed while the other doesn't. Usually HRM's "guess" at calorie consumption based on the programmed weight of the athlete.

Yes it would not necessarily be that accurate. A better measurement is to measure the CO2 your are generating during cycling but even that does not yield calories burned. Carbohydrates, fats and proteins all produce different yields of C02 per calorie burned - so even there you would have assumptions.
