I am in the process of building up a peugeot road frame. I am buying handlebars with stem shifters mounted and I was thinking of getting a Kelly TakeOff kit (http://www.kellybike.com/takeoffs.html)
so the shifters would be closer to the brakes. It is more an issue of appearance than function.

Does anyone have experience with or an opinion on the kit?

Thanks

It works great. It is used for Cyclocross racing and you can reach the shifters from pretty much anywhere on the bars. Alot cheaper than STI or Ergo, lighter and less likely to get damaged in a fall.
They look pretty cool on the bike too.
Depending on the levers you have, you might have to do a little grinding or trimming of the lever body for the Take-off to tuck under correctly. Most levers fit fine, however.
Really simple to do though.

Thanks RacerX.

If I already have shifter cable should I still get the entire kit or just the pair?

I forget what comes with the kit but it makes it easier if you have the "J" shaped ferrules to guide the cables. Otherwise, you have to figure that out for yourself. I am guessing the kit will have everything so you don't have to run to the bike shop 10 times.
I got mine from a friend so I don't know if mine was a kit or not. It had the "J" metal ferrules and stuff though.
Your downtube shifters just connect to the Take off after that.
actually, I think they have step-by-step pictures on Kelly's site. check it out.
Good luck and post a pic of your ride after it's all hooked up :)

Hey Cyclochica, the pair includes the Take Off shift lever mounts, dual sided ferrules, noodles and two M5 replacement bolts and washers (for optional use).

The kit includes the bolt on down tube cable stops, 2 gear cables, gear cable housing, 4 ferrulles, and cable ends. Basically everything you need to complete the take off install besides the levers themselves and bar tape.

I am glad to sell you parts or partial kits if you dont need the whole thing.

I also stock the flat back shimano backing plate that goes under the shimano lever if you need those too. just let me know when you place your order.

Anybody notice the date on the original post? I think she has probably made her decision by now (3+ years)

Wow, this was a blast from the past. I did end up getting a take off kit from another forum member and they worked great for the time I had them. I sold the bike two years ago and have since bought a Fuji and a Kona JTS.
