Picked this up today for my wife. They had it marked and $30 and I was mildly interested. The marked it down to $10 so I thought why not? 1964, sturmey archer 3 speed. Pretty good shape. a few nicks and scratches. a bit of rust on the chrome bits . Maybe a bit of elbow grease will take care of that?

Nice bike, and a teriffic buy. These things are great riders.
I think the equivalent men's model is the Deluxe Racer. I have a Racer that I converted to 3-speed and handbrakes, and it is a favorite.

On a sad note..

I read this thread still expecting sydney to give his true opinion of yet another old Schwinn.

I do miss the guy..

Nice find. Barring mishap that bike should still be around in 2064, getting someone down the street.

Nice! Some fine BRASS wool (not steel) and kerosene will clean up the chrome very nicely.

I'd use polish or rubbing compound before ever touching it with steel OR brass wool. 24" wheels?

Looks Great! You Scored! For yet another rust removal tip, I use Quick-Glo for rust removal. I found it in my local vintage LBS.

Yes. I've seen several threads this week where someone was lucky enough to find a 40 pound Schwinn that could easily be "tuned up" to provide another thirty years of riding....and I keep waiting for Sydney to remind us that old Schwinn's are just "gas pipe".

I don't think I'll ever look at a Varsity or a Continental again without remembering they are "just gas pipe".

I'd do more than that, I'd take it apart and overhaul it. Instructions below.
