It was an earlier rise this morning but it seemed like everyone slept well, even the ones who stayed outside the tent. We made coffee and breakfast and had a slow relaxing morning, waiting for the sun to rise over the mountains. We hacky sacked for quite a while which was a nice warm up for sore, stiff legs. Jason also got out the fly rod and fished in Colchuck Lake. It was mesmerizing watching him cast out into the calm water. I got some nice photos of the rocky Asgard Pass we hiked down yesterday evening and also captured some of the surrounding areas of the beautiful alpine lake. We decided to pack up and were back on the trail shortly after noon. My legs were a bit sore but I still had enough juice to enjoy climbing down the valley. The views around Colchuck Lake, inside the surrounding forest, and the far mountains beyond us were spectacular. As we descended, we began to walk through a nice forest of cedar, and then followed a creek down to the end of the trail. A few of us grabbed a cold beer from Jason’s trunk and walked back to a small tributary of the creek to soak our feet in the cool water and wash up a little. We drove back to the other trailhead to drop off someone’s car and give a couple other hikers a ride back to their car. It was a nice scenic ride. It wasn’t long before we were at Gustav’s for a bite to eat and some celebratory beer to wet our whistles after a long amazing weekend in the mountains. We had burgers all around and enjoyed some tasty brew before cruising back 3 hours to Bellingham to call it a night. We all said goodbye at Misty’s, where I planned to hang out and rest my sore legs all day tomorrow. I had a nice long hot shower to wash away 3 days of funk and then got comfy for some writing before bed. It was nice to recap the weekend in words. I had a great time seeing Misty again and meeting some new friends, especially in such an amazing atmosphere.
