The Saddle River Park is located in the center of Bergen County, New Jersey -- about 12 miles west of New York City. The park runs through the towns of Rochelle Park, Saddle Brook, Fairlawn, Glen Rock, Paramus and Ridgewood. The bike trail that runs through the park is entirely paved. Riding the loop, round trip, including the side trails, is about 18 miles total.

These are some pictures that I took when I rode through the park on a cool, drizzly Friday afternoon in mid-October. The park was practically deserted. Notice that everything is still very green, unusual for mid-October in the NYC area.

Although the fall was very warm, winter is here with a vengeance. We've already had two snow storms and another big storm is predicted for this coming Thursday.

I started at the Southern Entrance to the park, located on Railroad Ave. in the town of Rochelle Park.

The next two pictures are heading north in the Rochelle Park area.

The park is infested with Canada Geese, which can make the ride kind of crappy -- literally. Every time I ride through this park, I have to wipe the goose poo off my bike when I get home.

I'm now in the Saddle Brook section of the park. This is where the trail passes under the Garden State Parkway.

The next two pix are the duck pond in the Saddle Brook section. If you notice there aren't any ducks in the "duck pond", it's those crap filled geese again. I think the geese must have eaten the ducks.

This is where the trail passes under Red Mill Road.

There's the "Red Mill". Actually, this was never a mill. This land was once part of the estate of a wealthy New York City businessman that made a fortune in the sugar trade. The "mill" was actually a pump house that took water from the river to irrigate Mr. Moneybag's estate.

This is an X-Mart bike that someone either abandoned, or stashed, in the "mill". It appeared to be in good shape. I left it unmolested.

Do you love teenagers as much as I do?

I'm in Paramus now. The trail passes behind the Greek Orthodox Church on Paramus Road.

The trail then passes back over the river into Fairlawn.

Oh, no! I'm being followed by a pilot-less drone. Damn you, George Bush!
http://mysite.verizon.net/vze3j6z2/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/P19.jpg

There's the pilot. This section of the park is reserved for model airplane enthusiasts.

I'm now in the Paramus section of the park. During colonial times, this area was filled with slave shacks. I'll bet that most of you didn't know that New Jersey was once a big slave state.
http://mysite.verizon.net/vze3j6z2/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/P28.jpg

Heading north in Paramus.
http://mysite.verizon.net/vze3j6z2/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/P29.jpg

A spillway next to the trail in Paramus.
http://mysite.verizon.net/vze3j6z2/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/P30.jpg

From Paramus, I took the side trail to Glen Rock. This is the duck pond in Glen Rock.
http://mysite.verizon.net/vze3j6z2/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/P31.jpg

Heading back north, this is where the trail passes under Grove Street in Paramus.
http://mysite.verizon.net/vze3j6z2/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/P32.jpg

Here the trail passes under Ridgewood Avenue in Ridgewood.
http://mysite.verizon.net/vze3j6z2/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/P33.jpg

The duck pond in Ridgewood.
http://mysite.verizon.net/vze3j6z2/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/P34.jpg

I took a picture of this house in Ridgewood. This is not a 100 year old Victorian under renovation, it is new construction that looks like a 100 year old Victorian. This will probably be $1.5 million when it's done. The folks who live in Ridgewood have money, and they spend it.

The End.
