Keep it. If nothing else, it's nice to have a spare for when you encounter inevitable maintenance issues with your main rider.

depends. a geared bike is nice, and some would say even necessary for some training and such, if that's what you're going after. and maybe you want to just coast down a big hill sometimes. maybe you need a backup bike for when your main bike has problems (even just a flat--you'll have something to ride to get a new tube if you're stupid like me and never keep a spare or are unlucky and end up using up the spare and getting another flat).
and maybe you want the extra money to buy nicer wheels. maybe you could get enough for a set of wheels and an old schwinn to have as a backup bike. maybe you could buy a lot beer with it.

there's a lot to take into consideration. i'd keep it, either geard or converted, but that's just me and my purposes and desires. what are yours?

Turn it into a rain bike/ truck. Throw some full fenders and a rack on it if it will take them.

Trust another Kentuckian: coaster brake hub single speed conversion if possible, otherwise racks and fenders for cargo and bad weather.

ENO it! then do the rack/fender thing. backup/rain bike, and you can throw the gears back on later, should you decide. or if the parts are decent enough, you can sell them off for enough to cover the cost of the ENO wheel.
