Dang guys, I'm bored.
So brag to BF and show us what MAD scars you have and how'd you get it?

Here's one of mine:
I got it by the end of Grade 8 in Design and Tech class. I didn't use the C-Clamp with the Drill Press which was loaded with a 3.5" drill bit.

got a nice one accross my right ankle from getting t-boned about a year ago. My ankle went right into my chainring... the next day I found some chunks of flesh covered grease in my chainring.

My most prominent scar is the one I've got one right between my eyes from a frisbee during an Ultimate game last winter. My bike related scars are limited to a little bit of road rash from a couple of 0mph falls this summer and nicks all over my hands from general maintenance.

I've got a whole bunch on my leg and a few on my arms.
Here's what the last accident looked like, you can see where it sheared through most of the layers of skin, through the fat layer, and into the flesh underneath.

nice. I got some injuries that looked like that when I slid down and fell off a roof.

and am I right to assume that many of us in here have the classic chainring-puncture row of scars on the back of their calf? because I do.

Two small scars either side of knee from traction pin. Hit by car fractured femur in three places.
One about an inch and a half long on my left knee from a chainsaw incident. Above that are lighter ones where the bar kicked off my knee cap and climbed up my thigh a bit.
One about an inch at the knuckle of my right pinkie where a lock back knife failed to stay locked.
Numerous small ones on my chest from hitting a barbed wire fence.
One on right wrist from a jagged lip on a fender
Couple of crooked fingers from breaks(Or is it brakes?) Same with a couple of toes.
Gouged my shins up from trials. A couple of them you can still feel the groove in the bone at the scar.
Best one is in my retina from a steel sliver. In the right light I can see it(from the inside)

... and that's not even me.

As far as my scars go:
- I've got a nice one on my left index finger. I almost cut my finger off with pruning sheers when I was a kid (I saw bone and thought it'd heal fine w/ just a bandaid - nope).
- There's about a 4" long one on my left shin from a tube of toothpaste. Remeber the oldschool tubes that were made of metal? I was in Cub Camp or something and it was sticking out of my backpack pocket. I picked up my backpack and it opened my shin up like a razor. I didn't even feel it.
- My right hand has some scars across it from putting my fist through a wall (the wall won in retrospect).
- My stomach looks like a ****ing jigsaw puzzle. I've been opened up more than a dozen times and there's a foot-long seam running up me (about an inch wide), with a few more nearby to compliment it. I don't even have a belly button anymore. That got lost along the way at some point.
- My junkie scars. I had a mainline threaded from my artery at the elbow right into my heart. That was in for a few months until it got infected (if you've seen Requiem for a Dream ... ya, like that). The rest of my arms over the veins are covered in little i.v. scars, but they're starting to fade.

My dad's got some good ones ... multiple surgeries ... knife wounds, accidents. My mom's got a dent in her shin from a car accident - a bucket that was sitting between her legs crushed part of her shin bone.

... and my sister had her big toenails ripped out. No, seriously - they don't grow back.

I dunno... I almost had my right leg removed when I was a kid -- broke the tibia and fibula in 2 places each, only thing holding my foot to my upper leg was the main artery running to the foot and the main nerve cluster. The entirety of the skin on the front of my leg was removed. Took six months of surgery to fix it up... and I still have a leg, yay.

The grafting was so bad that they couldn't internally fix the pins on the bones -- needed to do external fixation. Yeah.

this thread ROCKS!

(jk I am about to puke.)

which reminds me. I have a pretty sweet hole in my shoulder where I had a rock stuck in it. Not my biggest scar, but I am always surprised when I see it. The concussion erased all memory of how it happened, but I am pretty sure it involved a bicycle.

Am I the only one that has a couple sprocket wounds on the back of his right calf? (aka reasons for me to love single speed #578 and #579, or 578-590 if you count each gear-tooth wound individually). I got those when I was pretty young, if I had to pick a "favorite" sort of wound, puncture wounds would be it. No stitches, no pain, no blood.

no, you're not the only one. on a geared bike, i was riding on the smaller inside chainring one night and a little inebriated...when i got off my bike, i noticed my leg was bleeding. when i cleaned it up, i realized i'd been impaled in the back of my leg by the outer chainring.

yeah, i hear you on that one.

i have a couple of small, msyterious scars on my left hand. no idea where they came from. it just looks like a couple drops of acid rain hit my hand or something. those are my only scars. i also have a chipped tooth. i'm just glad the wrecks that messed my face up for a couple weeks each didn't leave scars on my face.

That's my left index finger. The scar is hard to see now; it's been almost 10 years. Cut through the bone with a bowie knife. Luckily, I missed the joint by a couple millimeters. I have no loss of functionality, other than some nerve damage. I used to be able to hold the finger over a candle indefinitely, but since I've regained some nerve function.

These days I just blame the scar on a drivetrain accident ;)

scars all over my legs/arms from off road riding and getting whipped by branches. me tan is a funny sight, as i have all these scars that don't tan. lots of little burns on my hands. some suture lines on the underside of my chin (8) and lover lip. matching on my knees and elbows from laying bikes down offroad. some road rash lines on my hips and sides of my calves. one long one on the underside of my left arm - play/fighting with one of the cats as a kid; her claw gut sort of stuck, and dragged a nice furrow into me. nasty weal on top of my right foot from a seatpost break - tossed me off the back of the bike and that foot somehow went into the rear wheel while i was wearing teva sandles. a few half round drag scars from downhilling at keystone two summers back; bike broke at top and down tube, and the ends nailed my chest. scarred up even though i was wearing a full chest pad. none really warrant pics; a few big long ones, but most are small. i just have alot of them.

and the best for last!

human bite marks on my right wrist. from a patient that went a little wackjob one night. hand was numb for about 6 months; the guy had crunched down on my radial nerve a bit too much......

When I was first getting into biking and knew nothing of bikes, I bought an old used one that wasn't in good shape but I thought would get me from A to B. Anyway, I was riding home one day and all of a sudden I wake up on the ground with a bus driver talking Swedish to me (I was on an exchange in Sweden). I looked over at my bike and noticed it on two pieces. The front fork snapped right off just below the headset and I ended up doing a complete face plant into a paved trail. I didn't even have time to put my hands down. Other than my face, the only part that had any injury was my shoulder with a small amount of road burn.

I was taken to the hospital where I ended up spending 3 hours in surgery to clean the gravel chunks out and sew my face up. I ended up getting 65 stitches in total. I have a scar that goes from the side of my right eye to my ear that was taken down to the skull, another scar going perpendicular to that going from my eyebrow on my right eye down to about half way down my cheek. I also got some stitches to reattach half of my ear and then a few other little spots on my face. On a positive note, no broken bones or concussion. I am glad I drink a lot of milk after that accident.

I also have two other minor scars, one from a incident with my brother and a garden hoe when i was three (on the left temple) and another from a car accident where they had to sew part of my scalp back on at the top of my head.

I now only need 15 more stitches to make it to 100 in my head. I haven't had a single stitch or any injury other than my head (knock on wood).

Some of these other stories are just gruesome. Yikes.

I've got some fun road burn marks on my shoulder, hands, and arms from an incident where some drunk frat boys rear ended me while i was riding home at bout 3 in the morn....

Truck full of fratys + me unsuspectantly riding home thinking people are mostly nice and good = clipped rear wheel leading to random burns all over. funfun.

Still have never found that truck in any frat parking lot. it was the fraternity Sig Ep though. Through personal investigation i heard that they were bragging about the incident. I still to this day maintain that if i ever meet them or there car it will be..

Keep your hands and feet inside the bus at all times. I've also got one on my retina where I shot my eye out with a BB gun. Actually, it was a pellet rifle. I had such deadly accurate aim that the pellet hit my target and flew straight back and into my eye. My now messed up vision also ruined my dead eye aim that was the cause.

On top of the hemorhhaging into the globe of the eye which was unpleasant enough, when all was said and done, I had to have the retina laser welded back onto my eyeball and still have a hole in it that I can see under the right conditions.

yeah, but on the flip side of things, greater liklihood of subcutaneous infections.

due to a mishap involving a fence and a flimsy pair of shoes i got a puncture wound in the bottom of each foot a few years ago--each one all the way up to the bone. to ward off infection they had to put me on Cipro for ten days so that i wouldn't lose my feet.

Cipro completely ate everything that felt good about having a body. it's like nausea, except of your whole body, not just your tummy.

Actually my cover story on the BB gun was I was flipping a pencil and whacked myself in the eye.

As for the finger, you know, watch all your bits when working on a track drivetrain. I didn't quite take off enough to be able to reattach it.

I have a 6-inch long scar on my left shoulder that I got from falling in the shower. It hardly bled at all, didn't even need a band-aid, but is still there to this day. I like to tell people I got it from a drunk with a broken bottle when I was working as a bouncer at a jazz club in Worcester.

Jazz clubs are so mellow they often hire 5'10" 140 lb college kids as bouncers.

I've had a few run-ins w/ Sig Eps too. They're pretty mighty when they outnumber you 5 to 1. Mighty enough to cheap shot you. Not so mighty when it's 1 on 1 or you're armed with a crazy pipe swinging Spaniard.

I've got a small scar on my right wrist from broken bottle during a street fight. The bottle wielder has a scar on the back of his head where he landed when I threw him on the ground after he cut me w/ the bottle. Believe it or not, I was 6 at the time.

Right across the end of my chin. It involved beer and a bike (loooong time ago). I was skidding around on a wet lawn outside a Mormon Church, and caught the rear wheel in full slide against a sprinkler head. I launched, and broke my fall by landing chin-first on another sprinkler. Only a flesh wound, but it felt like i broke my jaw for a few days.

Scar inside the left elbow is from a motorbike crash. I had bits of sand and gravel coming out of that puppy every now and again for, like, five years.

hands: many on each hand from fights, one on my left palm from getting snagged on the top of a chain link fence, one on left pinky from a broken bottle...
head: forehead, half under the hairline from a fight, a few small ones around my eyes from refusing to wear goggles when i spent four days cutting steel a few years ago, under my chin from skating way back when...
legs: three on my right knee from surgery, two small and barely noticable, one big and gross cuz it got infected, big one on the back of my right knee from trying to get into a house thru a broken window when i was younger... up until a couple years ago i still had the sock i was wearing the day i did that, which was entirely covered in blood and stiff as a board...

my webcam is a joke so i won't bother taking pictures, but i have two scars running the length of my left forearm, with staple marks. the second time i broke my arm skateboarding (doing bull**** tricks and just falling down-- no cool story) when i was 15 (nov 1999) i shatter both the bones; they were broken in pieces. so they had to cut me open and line up plates along both bones and connect them with something like 13 screws each. the scars are pretty sweet and people ask me about them all the time. the plates are still in my arm. i wish i had a copy of the x-ray... it was badass.

i hope to not gain any bicycling scars.

ps: that was the day i officially quit skateboarding. i am a wuss like that. though i imagine if i fall off my bike and am still able to ride, i won't quit. this is too amazing of a thing happening to my life right now to ever give up on it. i think it's safe to say i'm in for the long haul.

I have a fist sized scar where a bunch of skin got torn off on my left calf. I was finishing up a longish ride with a stop the Fullerton beach boathouse, didn't pay attention and ended up trapping my calf between the concrete ledge and the bike. The hair and skin sticking to the ledge was dramatic, but it didn't hurt that much. I lost the first layer or three of skin and the scar is a nice dark pink color.

That mother****er leaked plasma under the bandage for weeks. I remember changing the dressing at work and having my sock full of crap.
