View Full Version : Did I do that?

Today, I was on foot/train. On the way home, as I started up the stairs in the train station, my train arrived. I beat it up the stairs just in time to see the train doors closing.

I grabbed the doors like the Macho Man that I am. Unlike elevator doors, train doors just keep closing, unless you get really aggressive. I got really aggressive.

"BEEEEEEEEEEP!"

Whew! The doors popped back open. While the alarm was still screaching, I sat down as if all was nomal. Meanwhile, this high-pitched, ear-piercing "Beeeeeeeeeeep!" was continuously ringing throughout the crowded car. I waited for the squealing to stop, but it kept on and on. And on... "I'll wait until it quits. Man, this is a little embarrassing," I thought to myself.

But it never quit. It screamed in our ears for what seemed about 2 or 3 minutes. I knew everyone had to be getting upset at me by now for holding up the train, jamming the doors and causing temporary hearing loss like that. A couple of people glanced my way. I tried to act like I was asleep.

Finally, a voice over the loud speaker echoed, "THIS TRAIN IS NO LONGER IN SERVICE. ALL PASSENGERS PLEASE LEAVE THE TRAIN."

Oh my gosh! Now I have about 500 people marooned on the platform! At least the nice people in my car were the only ones who knew it was my fault.

Then the train operator appeared, walking briskly down each successive car, until he reached the other end of the train, where a second engine was located. The train sped off in reverse,
completely empty. I have no idea how many trains following had to stop and wait for this valiant man to ditch his broken vehicle.

I didn't wait to find out. I slipped through the crowd and got on a bus instead!

That's what I like about MARTA--versatility!

You'd better get a very good disguise if you plan to take that train again.....ever! ;)

"probably one of those #@%)(^% cyclist trying to bring down the establishment" is heard being muttered under the breath of passengers scattering to find another way to point "B"

It could be a coincidence.

Once I was using and electro saw in my apartment. It was in evening in summer. The sound of this electro saw is very loud and shrilly.

Many people were seating outside in the yard of our apartment block. It was dark outside already.

And suddenly the electricity was switched off in the whole district. Exactly at the moment when the saw was in high pitch.

I looked as if it was my fault, but it was not, as my fuses were OK.

I'm with Alexey just coincidence. If forcing the doors open broke the train it was waiting to be broken. But you can go to the "are you famious" thread and say yes.

Yes, it was probably waiting to be broken. At least, no one recognized me today!

"Hey, that's the stupid bas&ard that broke the train yesterday!"

It was probably my embarrassment that magnified the whole issue. Probably only 5 out of 500 people saw what I did. The rest were totally ignorant!

Sorry, Pete. I think you may have "done it." I don't know about MARTA, but the doors of the Bombardier coaches used by Metrolink, San Diego Northern Railroad, and several other commuter rail lines are NOT like elevator doors. Forcing them open, as you did, can indeed jam them and interfere with their proper operation. The driver is not permitted to carry passengers if any door is not able to close completely. This explains why he was able to drive the train after announcing that it was "out of service." [He may also have been getting revenge against passengers who force the doors.] I cannot prove causality, but it certainly is possible. Sorry about that!

There are cameras on every platform here in LA.

I think they're printing mug shots of you as we speak, Pete.

Pete,
I'm fairly certain that, had you tried that on the train down here, that after you were thoroughly beaten:fight: and gang "effed", your carcass would be tossed under the next train. But not by me, I'd be upstairs sound:sleep:

funny story

That 1% is still laughing with you and at the train. Bicycle riders are tough - singlehandledly broke the commuter train.;)
