Hello all!
I'm thinking of rebuilding my tandem's wheels. The stock wheels use Sun's CR-18 rim. Since it does not have a machined braking surface, I'd like to get rid of them (also, since I can build wheels, I'm doing it because I can :p) I'm considering 3 rim's from Velocity: the Dyad, the Deep V and the Fusion. Currently, I run 28mm tires. I'm going to get new tires as well. I'll be using the same width, but I'm thinking of getting either Avocet Fasgrips or Conti Ultra Gator Skins.
I'd like to hear from folks that have any of these three rims. What tire (model and size) are you running on them? What is your take on the rim and tire?

Thanks as always for your input.

Fusions with 28mm Gatorskins: work great. I've also got Deep V's on a set of training wheels I run with 22mm tires for a single bike.

Velocity Deep V with Vredestein Fortezza 700x23 & 700x25; 285lb team weight.

We have been using this combination on two different tandems since '02, & Mavic CXP-30 (discontinued) with the same tires since '98. Not indestructable, but they build up easy, hold lots of tension well despite the lack of ferrules, and have survived a few high speed encounters with pot holes (poor paceline etiquette by leading tandems). Although clearly damaged and in need of replacement (bent sidewalls, slightly buckled V-section, remained fairly true and could be made "good enough" to get us back to the car and -- after a little rework with a padded cresent wrench -- allowed us to finish the weekend. Open Pro, Mavic CXP33, daVinci V-22, or other less robust or shallow section rims would have easily been unrideable after these hits.

I should point out that we weigh about 290lbs, although my son is only 12 and is getting bigger all the time.

I agree with everyone's take on Velocity - I have three sets 2 deep V and one Fusion - very popular in my club as well

What size tire are you using with each? Also, what brand and model of tire? Thanks.

So, wide agreement that Velocity make good rims - Fusion, DeepV and Dyad. But any idea which of these would be best for this guy with 28mm Gatorskins and a light team?

Update: I purchased the Deep V rims. I got a screaming good deal from Universal Cycles. Thanks for the input.
