That's all I have to say. I had never used Business cycles before last week, and I give him high marks for kindness.
I know this is not news to most of you.
he was kind of short with me the one time that i dealt with him, but it was only one time, so he might have been in a bad mood or whatnot. in any case, i had absolutely no problems with my order. jackpot.

yea...he was very nice on the phone when I ordered a cog from him and there were some questions about the availability of it.
Usually stores try to rush you off of the phone, when you inquire about stuff...I was to the point where I was trying to rush him off the phone. He was very helpful.

He's been great during all my bull**** email questions that I've sent him. My gf emailed him a week or so ago to order me something for giftmas and she mentioned out of the blue how nice he was to deal with as well.

I have only good things to say about John. The times I have dealt with him were the best as far as not actually being physically in the shop to talk to him.
Added bonus: his website is a field of track knowledge and references in general. I wish more people would use it instead of asking here first.

Yeah, what I noticed was that he actually steered me to stuff he had on special. I was going to buy a chainring that cost about 50 bucks and he was clearing out some for about 40. Same quality, just cheaper. Good for him too, they were rings leftover when he just sold some crankarms. Same thing on a cog. I bought a chain with the money I saved.
I have to agree with everyone on this thread. He is very knowledgeable about his products and will make suggestions based on compatibility. He seems to have an interesting tid bit about all that he sells. I have spent a good chunk with him and will continue to do so.

Agreed! And I'm just working up a christmas list now (for myself and others), complete with bookmarked links to Business Cycles.

I do that every year! hahah then I go and pick up the stuff while I'm down visiting the family. John is awesome and his dog is really cool too! Last time I was there we talked about parts for like 3 hours.

I try to give John as much of my business as I can, even when I can get something cheaper somewhere else.
He explains stuff, and tells me when they have shortages and when I can expect parts to arrive, especially EAI cogs.
I also like the guys at Webcyclery, and not just because the live and work here in Bend, Oregon.
When it comes time to do my Mercian Fixed Gear, I don't know whether to have John build it or Webcyclery.
John lives and breathes this one narrow aspect of bicycling.
He knows all the nuances and obscure facts.
It would make sense to have Mercian send the frame to John; let John build the wheels and assemble the bike; and then send it on to me.
Anyway, I always look forward to buying something from John because of the five or ten minutes I get to talk to him; and, I always get the right part for the job.

If I need something that he sells, I buy it from him. I have gotten perfect service from him every time. Until hell freezes over, I will buy from him. Excellent guy, excellent business all around.

+1 on the plus one's.
And my orders were shipped real fast too.
maybe he's cool, but i don't get a chance to find out. he refuses to mark down the price of the products which he ships international, wtf. its not that difficult, just say its a gift ...come on!

The last time the hurricane came thru Florida he called it a nuisance to him. I believe his roof received some damage (air conditioner blow clean off) and maybe some windows cracked but he didn't care. We talked about components and he shipped the order out that day.
