Ok, some of you will see this as a vanity thread. But plenty of people have asked for better photos of my tandem. Here they are:

Finally, here's a closeup of a coupler, once of the welds, and finally, one that begins to show my OCD when it comes to bikes. You can barely see the SRP chainring bolts. They're blue, and the cable tip nearby for the shifter matches. Since the brakes are Avid, the tips near them are red. I need help. :D

We started with an XT/XTR drivetrain, custom titanium disc brake rotors, different pedals, tires, and different seats. We've also bought some hydraulic brakes that haven't been installed yet. I don't even want to add everything up.

Aussies have always been the adventurous sorts. Looks like this tandem can go anywhere . . . except maybe across the Tasman Sea (bet you could attach pontoons and pedal across that too!).

You can't see the pink kitty sticker on her stem. By the way, the stoker stem is the last piece of steel on the bike, and I've got the aluminium replacement already.

Assembled in Oz, from parts sourced from the US mostly. Thylacine told me the frame would be 3-4x would I paid for it, if it was made locally.

BTW, if you get a divorce (God forbid), a Ti-tandem becomes a liability, no? I mean you can still drive a car as a single person, but the tandem... that'ld look weird. I suppose you could cruise around the single bars: "Do you wanna go for a ride?" (Have vidcam ready for look on face when prospect sees tandem instead of racy car.)

Jur - I wouldn't even want to think about that. But when I was single - I loaned out my Cannondale. The one with the Fatty SL Headshok. This nurse from UCLA Medical Center would call up and ask if she could ride my fatty.

No, the Aussie Princess is my one and only. I plan on keeping her.

There is someone here that rides the Hotter than Hell with a skeleton on the back. There's always a solution.

It's got couplers. In a divorce, they split the tandem.

That is a pretty bike. And...
you need to shorten your brake cable ends to less then 1/2 inch, per Avid. (So they don't end up catching in the rotors)

Haven't narrowed it down yet. Looks like east SLC, but that's only a guess. We'll arrive about 2 months before our bikes, but I will take you up on that offer at some point.

My solution to the divorce question: First, of course, try not to (family therapy, etc.) but if it happens keep the tandem and do this. It is my daughter's and mine solution to my wife not riding with us very often on our triplet. Works great. Our favorite animal to bring is the kangaroo which plays "Imagine" (Beatles), but others like this black dog come along sometimes instead.

By the way, I also ride this bike alone. My single is a department store bike I got for my 12th b'day. The triplet's quality is so much superior that I can't stand to ride the single (plus the frame is too small and is rusting). So I always ride the triplet. I imagine it looks odd, but I sure enjoy it, and I don't mind drawing attention to myself. Sure the bike is a little heavier and has a much longer turning radius, but I don't mind.

There is no divorce question. Only someone making a bad joke.

Yeah, the time has come to pack my tandem for the trip back to the US. Into a box, then a shipping container. We'll be reunited some time in March! :eek:

Here it is, on the Ultimate. I forgot to take the pedals off while the chains were still on. The bleeding stopped in after about an hour. Chains were removed, rear brake cable disconnected, rear derailleur removed, front one indexed with a Sharpie, then both cables rolled up and everything packed into bubble wrap.

Ok, I suppose the last post, I got a bit ahead of myself. After removing the stuff mentioned above, I used my handy titanium spanner to uncouple the rear end of the frame.

The rack and seats were removed. The seats went into the box, along with the rear portion of the frame. Then it was time to remove the captain's bars and the fork. A single crown Marzocchi DJ would eliminate the need to remove the fork. The box on the ground is what I was going to pack the fork and 3 frame tubes into, but I could see that it was all going to fit into one big box.

A bit of bubble wrap, and the front of the frame went into the box. The front wheel went in next to it, with the fork wrapped in more bubble wrap, and laid over the back wheel. The 3 frame tubes were also wrapped in bubble wrap, and laid on top of it all. There's room to spare. When it comes out, I will hopefully be installing a Marzocchi, plus the Magura hydraulic brakes that have been in their original box for the last year. Once it is fully sorted out, custom boxes will be designed for travel. My dream is for it to fit into two boxes, which magically turn into a trailer when the bike comes out. I already have the wheels.

Isn't the Postie one of our best friends? Not 2 days after we arrived in the US, our wonderful postal employee showed up with a box containing a Marzocchi DJ fork. I'll update this thread when our stuff arrives in Utah, and I can put the tandem back together.
