How many of you brew beer? How long have you been doing it? How advanced is your kit?

I'm trying to keep 3 batches going all the time. That makes it so I've always got some to drink, some to give away, and some to take to a "social function". My mainstays are porters and IPA's. I've been playing with one Jubelale recipe that is just about where I want it now.

I boil the wort with personally selected grains/hops/yeast, but I haven't got too much into the mash process yet. I brewed every now and again for a few years, and this year got back into it heavier.

We did it a lot in grad school (surprise). I was a bio guy, so it was my job to sterilize everything in the lab. Whatever we made, it always ended up tasting the same: a good beer with a steak, but a bit heavy. And we always managed to have a few bottles explode.

Kegging is definitely the way to go....much easier to sterilize 1 keg than 54 bottles. And no exploding bottles! I got my cornelius keg used for $20. The CO2 kit costs a little more, but is certainly worth it.

I did a lot of brewing 5 or 6 years ago. As much as I enjoy it, I found it very time consuming and because I have so many other hobbies, I put it on the back burner, so to speak. I brewed mostly IPAs and amber ales, using a combination of grain and extract. I also found some great Sam Smith porter, Fullers ESB and Bass clone recipies. Gee, now you guys have me thinking........maybe I'll start brewing again this winter.

used to brew a lot. Now too lazy, too many good brews on market. Once a year we'll brew an awesome
doppelbock.

I'm brewing another 5 gal. batch tonight...

It's going to be a sort of experimental IPA, where I brew it up with extra malt extract and hops, and half way through fermentation add some more sugars and yeast to the mix. Kinda like a dopplebock. Anyone know if this is a workable idea?
