Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Holy crap do I miss fixed

It's been long enough now since I stripped my ENO that I've gotten used to riding a freewheeling bike again (I put a freewheel on the other side of the hub, put on brakes, etc). There are a few perks, mainly being that I can actually hop curbs and jump over the massive potholes that abound in Missouri and things like that, but it still remains that...

Holy crap I miss riding fixed.

My mileage has plummeted since I had to switch to SS. I still like to ride, but it's just not the same as it was. The magic is gone. (Yes, I just said that)

I was originally going to ride SS until I could afford to just build another bike (track this time). I'm still going to build a track bike eventually, but I'll be damned if I wait that long to ride fixed again. What I'm going to do in the mean time is just build up a new ENO wheel. I mean hell, the frameset is a Basso - it deserves a new wheel. I'm not even patient enough to just wait for that, though. I think I'm going to go the BB lockring route on the freewheel side of the hub until I get that new wheel.

Apparently the cyclist in me cannot function without riding fixed. Fixed is a permanent addiction.

How did your ENO strip? Those always looked sketchy for as a fixed wheel alternative, but good for SS.

Weird stripped lockring threads - the cog threads are still OK. The hub is actually fantastic for fixed gear - I'd recommend it to anyone. My hub was an early one, and there were some other reports of the same problem early on. I still feel that what happened to my hub was a fluke, and stand by the quality of the product 100%. Smooth as hell, superb engineering and build quality, easy chain tensioning, etc. I may have cross-threaded the lockring threads at some point without realizing it, or something. I really don't know why it happened, but it's beside the point, I think.

Good to know. I automaticaly assumed it had to do with the eccentric adjustability. I want to try one on my Mtn. bike, as a SS.

yeah i have to admit since i got my fixed gear bike i've hardly thought of anything else (and this is saying a lot)

i even wake up early ( :O ) and get up from the computer ( :O ) to go bike riding

i'm also entirely obsessed and won't stop talking about it to a few friends who i'm sure are only still listening because they are awesome people.

Sounds like a prime candidate for locktite if the cog threads are good. Clean well with acetone, (outside please) and go aerospace. You already have the backup brakes. :)

Nah - I'm putting it on the freewheel side w/lockring. I'm getting rid of the brakes as soon as it's back to fixed.

I agree, but I would go a little nuts if I didn't have the option.

Funny thing is to ride a "broken" .... At least build a cheap coaster brake so not to miss the leg control action.

If the suicide setup doesn't work out for you... why not just build up a wheel with a regular track hub, especially if you'll eventually be getting a proper track frame?

Once upon a time, people mucked about with half-links and such to get good tension with vertical drops... ;)

...or better yet, this may be an excuse to get the Shadow Conspiracy chain...

...either way, it just seems silly to shell out for another ENO when you've said yourself that they don't work well on non-vertical drops.
