BMX - noisy chains

my friend has a brand new eastern element and he got a new chain for it cause the old one broke when we put it on it made a funny noise. then the cassete ring came loose twice i locktited it on and now the chain is making a worse noise i think its not coming off the rear sproket properly and thats what the noise is i think the chainwheel and backsproket arnt lined up staight enough and there isnt and spacers to take out of the chainwheel

help me out

The cassete lock ring is on backwards, trust me on this one.

i think it is on the right way. the writing is on the outside. the driver could be on the wrogh way on the wrong way. but does that even matter?

if it is on the wrong way how do i get the lock ring off?
ill need a chain whip wont iand a freewheel special tool

i used a similar . but it is the chain wheel and the driver arnt at the same angle and the chain it rubbing or touching one side of the driver as it comes off and that is whats causing the noins its rubbing

Well, then maybe you should insert/remove a spacer instead of asking questions that you already know the answer to.

Drive systems are a pain sometimes. As there could be many things wrong. First I recommend checking your chain(one of two things can be wrong here) either it has stretched slightly on one side (for example some of the right side plates might've stretched) to check for this remove your chain. Then hold it by the end link and watch to see if it curves to one side. If this happens, you need a new chain and a stronger one at that. I recommend the shadow interlock 2. If you're on a budget get a heavier KMC chain. ok say your chain isn't stretched maybe you need to loosen your chain tensioners if you have any and if not maybe your chain is too short. If you've figured out the problem isn't the chain. Then check the teeth on the driver and the sprocket (some could be bent or broken). If some are bent then gently bend em back and if you happen to break some off (it has happened to me). It isn't the end of the known world. some teeth can be broken off but don't let that number get too high otherwise your chain will jump at really bad times. Last resort check to see if the sprocket is warped or bent(common problem happens more times then I change socks). If it is remove it and lay it on a flat level surface and pound the warp or bend out as best you can without leaving grooves and divets into your sprocket. Just registered but tons of experience I hope this helps my fellow rider.

[edit] A chain too tight is pretty obvious, as is an incorrect chainline. Is the chain too narrow?

I never knew chains could cause so much aggrivation. *whew*

If there are no sprocket spacers that can be removed to push it in, then why not add a cassette spacer to the rear to push it out?

BMX Handyman- Does the rear hub/driver have interchangeable cogs? If so the problem is the lock ring that goes over the cog. Just flip it over, screw it down and your golden.

ill try it. and its a brand new bike and the chain is a brand new half link.

Chains are different sizes, the smaller the TT size your rear is the better the chance of something not fitting it right.

ok. and the lockring was on the right way(it was mega messed up when we flipped it over).we fidled with it a bit and it is a bit better. but the lockring keeps coming loose(even though it was locktited on and done up real tight). could we let it be for a while and see if it wears in?
