Advocacy & Safety - www.bicyclinglife.com

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I think this has been posted before:

I was reading this article:
http://www.bicyclinglife.com/EffectiveAdvocacy/Marginalization.htm
It was interesting: it uses a different perspective on a the paramount problem with riding a bike- traffic.
Please excuse the cherry-picking of thought provoking ideas:
" A solo bicyclist on a road does not experience much risk (aside from steep mountain descents and other extreme situations). A bicyclist following the rules of the road in traffic does not pose a risk. The main thing that poses life-threatening risk is the human being operating the motor vehicle on that road."
That rings true.

Thanks for the link, I'd forgotten about that website. Didn't post this yesterday because I spent that time surfing it... :)

I first saw this website several years ago. Is it still being updated? Lots of good information, but the last copyright date is in 2000.

I had an old bookmark and just reread much of the material. But then again I fly to Portland, OR and visit Powells (the mother of all bookstores) as a destination. I consider people thinking and writing about bikes, from any perspective, refreshing.
Another gem
"In November of 2002, our daughter made us an offer we couldn't refuse: "Dad, Mom - do you want to ride our bikes coast to coast this summer?"
I want to read that.

carless, go to bentrideronline.com, and go to the "Message Board". You'll see "General Discussion", click on that. Go to page 9, and look for the "Completed USA Cross Country Tour" thread. Two brothers rode from Long Beach, Ca to Florida this year. It's a written account of their ride, with pictures. I think you'll enjoy it.

Yeah, every so often I have to go back to it.
I like the the way it writes on advocacy. That's something that I don't see enough on. Advocating for cycling.
