I'm a 53 year old runner that began to swim and cycle about 3 years ago when it became apparent that I couldn't run the mileage I wanted without running the risk of injury. To make a very long story short, I bought an inexpensive road bike (a Trek 1000) and started to train for a sprint triathlon. A few years later, I find myself really loving the multi-sport lifestyle especially cycling. I now own three bikes (a Specialized Hardrock Pro MTB and a 2004 Cervelo Dual -9 speed Ultegra), and hope to buy a nice titanium frame road bike at the end of 2006 (my Trek is fine and has been a great bike-NO problems...just want another...you know how it is). I've completed an Ironman (IM USA Lake Placid) and want to try to improve my slow time there (15:22:56). I'm very proud of finishing the event, but injury and some bad luck (including 2 flats on the bike leg) kept me from a time I'm capable of(2-3 hours faster). I also want to explore the possibility of bike racing, although I must confess that the very thought is intimidating. I'm not afraid of my own personal injury or getting embarassed, I'm more concerned about getting in the way of other riders, not knowing biking etiquette, and those kinds of things. I plan to devote 50% of my training time to cycling, and continue to run, swim and lift with the remainder of my energy. I love training and hope that I can learn a lot from all the participants on this forum. Thanks in advance to everyone that shares their experience and knowledge.
