So I was on e-bay and I see this.
I don't know what is more pathetic- the seller for posting it or the multitude of people bidding on it?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7204117384

For those who haven't seen this thing if came FREE in an issue of Vice Mag

I think that a lot of you guys who are "in the scene" forget that there are other people who do not have the knowledge or resources that you do.

If it were not for Bf and the knowledge gained here, that would be a reasonable price for the "tips and tricks" the book provides. I have paid $20+ for a road bike mainenance book, even though much/most of the same information is available on the Park Tools and Sheldon Brown sites.

I have no idea what Vice Mag is, nor where I would pick up(Pay) for a copy..in order to get this free pamphlet.

In a former life, I would go to the Macworld conventions for work. I then would eBay the free Apple posters on eBay. It was a win-win, I would make a couple of bucks, and people who were not in a position to get one free were able to get something they wanted for a reasonable price.

agreed.

i would only add that it's funny since this is available for free on their website... and it's really not all that informative. at least not what the first seller is making it out to be.

the ebay seller sounds like a real piece of work. i bet he said this many o' times in middle school:

"well, 50% of the kids in this cafeteria are just geeks posing to be hungry. thats why i beat them up and take their lunch money. just doin' my part, man..."

All this depends on where you are, i went to a critical mass rally three times here in wichita and the most we ever had was 5 people. One time it was just me and another guy.

Now there is no critical mass here. I can't even claim to be a poseur here in wichita because:
1. I don't know what a cool fixie person looks like.
2. If I looked like that nobody would know what I was supposed to be anyways.

But hey, i do have a copy of riding fixed by mayonaise, what the hell else do you need?

I paid around $75 for three Ron Rege Jr toys that were free from Tylenol's weirdo Ouch campaign if you happened to live in NYC or SF. I'd do it again, too.

the only way this could get worse is if someone emailed the link to the free ones on pumas site to the winner.
I'd personally feel like the biggest dick.
What would be nice, if you could retract bids, is to be able to email everyone with the link after they bid, then they could get it for free too.
The thing about this is, is that it is not stupid to have it, but to pay for it when it is still avalible to anyone for free.

Alright that's it. If that little pamphlet can make money then I am going to write my own "how to" that is going to kick butt so much harder. It'll contain a wealth of my opinions, thoughts, and feelings regarding the fixed wheel bicycle!
There will be some proper tricks in it as well as the basic stuff. From trackstands to crossfooted no hand skids.
It will contain excellent technical and other information (like that it really is fine to use Sugino 75 cranks with shimano bbs, and that knee pain has nothing to do with riding fixed but with fit, and that 3/32nds stuff if fine as long as you get the right stuff, etc.) and a ton of soul to convince anyone that they are seriously missing out if they don't ride the kind of bicycle their greatgrandparents rode (such as "the heart of your bicycle is the center of your rear wheel" thx Greg!). It is going to be on. It should be done end of Jan or mid Feb. And it will be spiral bound and cost what it's worth. It will rockandroll the hardestest!

The one in the OP ended at 56$. There are currently two others at 15$ and 13$; I have mine still in the plastic wrap with the Vice magazine. Should I sell it in the wrap? It might fetch more but the buyer will get it and realize that it was free. Unwrapped?

In the wrap, but without the magazine, if possible.

And be sure to set the BIN really high. This will raise the bar for everybody, and will relieve trust fund hipsters of even more money, which is a self-evidently desirable thing.

I will pay top dollar for anyone who can provide me with said wrapper that the book came in.
I will, once it arrives in the post, promptly place it over my head, and take in a series of deep breaths for a prolonged period, in order that I may inhale some of this 'Fixed Gear' effervesence.
PM me if you have the goods...I will resort to E-bay if neccesary...

Someone needs to start an auction for some super-secret links that will tell them everything that the pamphlet does. Then just send the winner to Sheldon Brown. That would be awesome.
