There is a triathlon in florida. Its a half ironman. 1.2 swim, 56 mile bike, and a 13.1 mile run. That long. So im offically starting on sunday my training(i have socc tonight and all day tomorrow). I did a the vytra oysterbay tri in august and it was my first tri. The swim was a bit of a shock. I had been doing my rountine of biking, and i ran for nyrr(ny road runners) so I had two of the three down. But the swim was a different story. I was dying. It was the worst. I so wasnt prepared for that. The bike was like 10 miles( i can do that sleeping, as can many of you) and a 5 k run. So it wasnt to bad but I was tired. So I gonna train really hard for the swim, and just keep up the running and biking, and by may of 07, I will have reached my goal by completing a half ironman b4 i graduate high school. Any one else doing it or have do it, whats the course like?

Sounds like a great goal...I wish I had known more about triathlons when I was in high school. Get a good training plan together and stick to it. I know the hardest part for me is consistency...I'll start of training strong and slowly lose enthusiasm as the season progresses. I'm signed up for IM Florida, so we have similar goals. I'm tryin to finish an IM before I get out of grad school. Good luck with training!!

Swim suggestion:
Go to www.totalimmersion.net
Buy Triathlon Swimming Made Easy book and Swimming Made Easy DVD. Do the drills, drills, drills.
I did Florida Ironman this past November. It was my first Ironman after having done two 1/2 ironman in Rhode Island over the past two years. The Florida course is very flat. The bike rolls a little bit especially over a couple of bridges. Overall though, very flat. The wind came up a couple of times but not too bad. The run is also very flat. The weather was beautiful - about 80 degress but little humidity.
I really didn't work hard on the swim in my training. The last swim I did before the Nov 7 ironman was during my 1/2 ironman on Sept 11. My last swim before that was a 1/4 mile in a small sprint triathlon. My swim regimen is really just a matter of hitting the weights. I did chest, shoulders and triceps excercizes three times a week. AT least one of them going heavy. I swam the ironman in 1:30. I think if I spent more time training, I may have shaved 10 minutes off that time - no big deal.
This may not work for everyone. I felt very comfortable out there with my other 2000 fellow swimmers.
Do You TRI?

the standard saying still applies .... whichever of the 3 is your worst ... train it the hardest. Maybe look into getting into a master's swim program at your local YMCA .... i know that it is not fun to train at something we don't enjoy ... i am right there with you ... I absolutely love to bike, have learned to love running, but i am still working on loving to swim.
