Framebuilders - Appel frameset information please.

I have a Appel frame that I am trying to confirm is built by Mike Appel the early Trek builder. It is made in the USA and the serial number says A.R.C. 2-1-87. This frame has very nice thin filed lugs and modern racing geometry. I want to ebay it as my son has out grown the frame and we are replacing. If anybody has information on these frames, are they really Mike Appel frames, and what tubes were used would be very helpful . Thank You.

As I understand Mike Apple is the maker of the Apple Frames and still lives in the Madison, Wisconsin area. There are a few around Madison were I went to school. I think one of the local shops had some. The serial number stands for Apple Racing Cycles?? if I remember the shop owner right and the date. So this one is from 1987.

The looked like nice frames but could never afford one as a student and now I like carbon.

What size is the frame? I have a son I was looking to get a road bike for.

That'a an Appel. I worked at Bikeland of Oshkosh and we sold Appel's. Colin Montgomery was the other guy in the Madison area that retailed them.

I visited Mike Appel in a couple of his shops in Madison back in the early eighties. We had mutual friends who had worked for Trek. His lug work and seatstay caps were always so beautiful. I also liked the way he pointed the drop out tab insertions at the chainstays and seatstays. I was building frames for Paramount Design Group at the time and the look of his frames were always my model. When ever I had the chance to build myself a frame, I tried to make an Appel. I hope your frame finds a good home.
