Commuting - LHT handlebars for a big guy

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I am starting to buy the components to build a Surly Long Haul Trucker to commute on. I am having difficulty figuring out what handlebars to get. I am six feet four inches tall with 50cm shoulders and very large hands (XXL gloves). Is there such a thing as randonneur style drop bars for someone my size? Heck, is there such a thing as drop bars of any kind for someone my size?
What advice do the big men out there have for me about handlebars?

When I looked there earlier this week they were out of stock on 46 and 48. :(

Check with Peter White. (http://www.peterwhitecycles.com/handlebars.asp). He stocks the 46cm Noodle Bars. They are my favorite handlebars, very comfortable.

I'm really enjoying my salsa cyclocross bar I put on my LHT. The biggest it gets is 46. It's nice because the drop portion kicks out some so you have a wider platform. Also I use bar end shifters and the kicked out drops keep me from hitting my knees on them when I'm standing up climbing a hill. They are countoured very nicely on the middle of the drop which is really comfortable. Has just enough flex to make them comfortable over long distance. I'm 6'2" but with 45 (euro) feet and about medum/large hands. I know how much of a pain it is to find stuff for my body size. It must really be hard to find stuff for you OP. Good luck!

Thanks, I will check out modolo.
I have been looking at the 3TTT Morphe, but I cannot find an online source in the US for them. Does anyone know of one?

Thanks for the Peter White tip. I am likely to end up going with the Noodles from there.

Are your bars the Bell Laps? I have been looking at them, as well. I am a little suspicious about what looks to me like an extreme anatomic bend. Are they comfortable in the drops, and do you think the anatomic bends would be comfortable for someone with really big hands? Thanks.

Nitto Northroad
Great bar for a larger rider... very wide at the base and very high-quality chromoly, so a ride better than carbon without the "snapping in half" factor. I use them on my fixie, and used them on a singlespeed and LOVE them. Lots of leverage and hand positions.

on-one makes some cool shaped bars! i admit i've never tried one (right now i am on this funky bullhorn bar i like a lot) but i might buy one when i get bored with how the corsscheck is riding again.

I just put a set of the On-One Mungo's on my bike about two weeks ago. I really like them for my commuter/intown bike. I never ride in the drops in traffic, so these have more usable hand positions. I've had to put on a shorter riser stem but otherwise they're great.
