Hi,

I will be on holidays soon and I am considering buying a Giant Halfway RS.
(it seems like the only folding bike in stock in Thailand now, except for a HASA F-1).

Does somebody know if it is possible to dismantle the rear triangle of a halway RS to fit the bike in a suitcase ?

You can fit the bike without playing with the swingarm, but if you want to go that way all you need is to lose the suspension and swing the entire rear "triangle" under the frame. It works fine but for a 32" luggage, all you need is to remove the wheels, the deraileurand lose one of the crankarms. The entire thing takes about 15 minutes on the first attempt and with practice, can be done in under 5 (just like the Downtube Full suspension).

Halfway RS is a great bike, very sophisticated folding system and quite sexy. Unfortunately it uses proprietary components and is no longer produced since 2003 (even in Thailand). It was replaced by the MR20. My dream bike is something between a Halfway RS with a Rolhoff 14 speed hub and the near-to-be-revealed Micro-bike from Downtube (2007 I guess?)

Just make sure once you buy it you post a picture of your halfway here. I NEVER saw another halfway RS besides mine.

While in Brazil, I had a chance to see an international 2005/2006 Giant catalog (in English)at a LBS. The Giant Halfway 7S (silver and Blue), The Giant Halfway RS (just the orange one) and the Giant MR 20 (black or Silver) were all present. I asked the bike shop guy and he said that all catalogs since 2000 had the RS, the only new stuff is the MR20 since 2003/2004.

So I guess I was wrong, the Halfway RS are still produced or at least sold to some foreign countries.
