assuming that you're linking to saint john's web server because you went/go there i will say this: there are no hipsters or hills in collegeville or saint joseph. there are fratties and monks and an occasional girl who listens to late 90's built to spill.

I cannot tell a lie, I walked my bike up the very end of the west side path the other week after I took a lil' fall in the patch of icy slush before the climb after going under the GWB. it was a sad sad day ...

I NEVER walk my bike up a hill!
You dialed you gear ratio properly so not to do it ... or you never go on a substantial hill.
I gear a little lower so to climb ALL the hills in my area. 14% hills can be really slow but It is good excersise.
 go 44x16. i do. i'm a pu**y. but i don't have to walk. :)
I climbed up Taylor street with 47x16...bllllaaaaauuuggghhh
i consider climbing one of my strengths.

52x16 will get you up any hill you need even if it is only at 50rpm...slow and steady wins the race...stoping the beast on the way down is a completely differrent story though. When it does get to slippery to cimb its the cx style all the way...Ive dialed in the flying dismount to cx carry and run up stairs...tends to get some wierd looks from bystanders though

Divis doesn't get rough until jackson or so, and then you can just tack over to scott st.

I was at an intersection when an ambulance came up from behind. In my haste to get out of the way I ended up wacking my ankle with my pedal (eggbeaters):

Wait, is this a thing, then? I'll go from riding to bike on shoulder, up the steps, then drop it and guide via saddle at the top of the steps. One-handed, no less (broke the left collarbone about year ago, blah.) I know poop about cross. I also get the looks sometimes, but I assume they're of admiration and/or frenzied lust. Eh.

damn...is your collarbone still fuked up?
how can you climb hills on your bike if you can't it with two hands?

Oh, I mean, its healed now, more or less... they're both broken and healed at weird angles now, but they're solid enough and I have range of motion enough so, eh...
Premise being, no car + left arm in sling = pretty goddamn fast learning curve.
This was/is also in Gainesville, on a geared machine, and it's some pretty PG riding for my commute.
It's all about guiding the bike by holding the saddle so you can stand far enough back to be clear of the spinning pedals.

Exactly.
Though it is considerably more difficult to do this uphill, which I think is where this thread kinda started.

Many local commuters walk their bikes around here.
I've never seen them on fixies, although some have single-speed BMXers.
I can recall walking a bike up a hill about four times in the past six years. I am ashamed to
even speak about it. I have had occasion to come to a stop while ascending a hill, but I use
it as a rest stop and continue the climb from that point.

the only time I've walked my fixie up a hill was last night when my chainring broke in half.
but it really is interesting...there's a hill I used to actually avoid because I wouldn't make it up (even with the aid of gears), and now I ride it on my daily route home and it usually doesn't even slow me down.
I can't wait 'til this time next year. I wonder what blows me away now will seem like cake then?

There's a hill I have to climb first thing coming from my school... I've never had to walk it but it always is a hug b*tch to climb. It's not even steep or anything like 500-600 meters getting steeper at the top as it goes over a bridge... Other hills like it don't even phase me but there's ALWAYS an effing headwind... ALWAYS... I can't wait till that one becomes a breeze. I think part of it's that I have to make a left right before I start climbing so I can't carry any speed into the thing... F*ck that hill!!! Also I find it much harder to climb longer gradual hills than steep ones... mabye cause those are always shorter...
