Are bicycle commuters a "walking" advertisement for cycling? When others see us, what do they think?

"Man, that looks fun."

"I wish I was that fit."

"I'd like to ride a bike."

"I want to look that good!"

The proof is in the pudding. Keep up the good work. Show them your lifestyle gives you something they would like to have, too.

And smile!

Hi; I wear cycling shirts with my company logo on the back. Now that is a real advertisement. :-)

Unfortunately, I'm not as optimistic. I think they believe we're akin to the fool who doesn't know when to come in out of the rain. Plus, if we're in their way, we're 'idiots'.

It can also depend on our riding style.

Some people can make even the easiest ride look like hard work. That is never going to make someone think, "Hmm, wish I was doing that."

Then there are others that whiz past and you think, "That looks like fun."

The owner of the local bike shop once told me I was his best advertisement :-)

I often hope others think I am that young! (I plan on clipping a Bugs Bunny coin purse to the outside of my gear, both to hold my change and to deceptively advertise my youth.)

Here on the Gold Coast, where hype usually overwhelms reality, most of them think "He's too poor to own a car" or something of that nature. This is, of course, limited to the ones who are actually capable of thought (not many around here I'm afraid).

Well, as a student, I AM to poor to own a car, even if I wanted one. :D

The people who see me probably think "Why doesn't that old guy act his age?" Or "Isn't he too old to play with toys?"

Around these parts, most people assume that if you are over 15 and on a bike (especially in the winter) that you most likely lost your license due to a DWI (OUI) conviction.
