if you get a 160mm rotor set-up on either the 5 or 7, can you go to a larger rotor later on?? they sell an adapter to position the caliper farther out...right?

thanks

oh yeah, do you know if the hose length is adjustable as on the Hopes?

i just bought a Juicy 5 for my bike for the front, but mine came with a 7" rotor. Im pretty sure you can adjust the length of the hose, i think i read that in the instructions

Is there a big Diffeernce between the Juicy 5's and the Juicy 7's?

i think the big difference is that the pads are adjustable. same thing as BB5 vs. BB7

only difference is the 7 has an adjustable lever as in the pull distance. i would get the 5 for sure. it is just as strong.

Okay, cuase I am in the making of customessing my bike, but I thought they might be weaker, would I ever need to adjust the 5's, or will they be fine?

go here and check out what they say about the differences.

the way i understand it is this...(i have HOPEs so i don't have direct "hands" on with these) the caliper and positioning system on the juicy 7 and 5 is the same (not talking about the newer carbon 7). the only difference is the dial on the lever to equalize/ adjust lever pull between the right and left levers.

someone can correct this if i interpreted it wrong.

my opinion is this. i could care less if pull is identical??? i know in my head that the RIGHT is for the front and left for the rear...i don't need them to be exact pull, i expect a difference.

keep this in mind as well. the back has a longer hose. i would expect a little more lever pull as opposed to the front. (ideal world there would be no diminish of force if on 3 feet of hose or 20 feet)...and furthermore, you wouldn't need as much lever pull to get the back to lock-up anyway.

my vote is for the juicy 5. they are both awesome!
from the reviews here:

http://www.mtbr.com/reviews/disc_brake_system/

many posters said they like the 5's as much or sometimes more.

HOPE that helps in your decision :)

I've got the 7's - great brakes. Buddy of mine has the 5's - they're great too.

BOTH are adjustable for bigger rotors - just need to get the bigger bracket from Avid. ZERO difference in the caliper.

The hoses are adjustable length; if you plan on doing it, get the bleed kit that Avid sells - it comes with two sets of hardware to let you connect the new lengths to the levers. The instructions that come with the bleed kit are very clear as to how to shorten the hoses. then b/c you introduced air into the system, you have to bleed them. The procedure that comes with the bleed kit is a good one - other posters on here have said it is crap and given other ways to get it done. I tried those other ways, but it was the Avid procedure that finally got all the air out of the system. It may take a couple few times to get all the air out, but you'll know when you do b/c the lever will be rock hard.

WRT the pad contact adjustment (the red knob on the 7s and the only real difference), I used it so the pads are at max pressure on the rotors in the same place of the lever throw...necessary, no way but iw was a nice touch.

BTW - Greenfish (http://www.greenfishsports.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=367) is selling Juicy's pretty inexpensively, both the 5's and 7's. I got my 7's for $130/wheel and the 5's are only $115/wheel. Both prices for the 6 inch rotor size.

No prob - I got the bleed kit on E-bay for $20 - paid for itself as soon as I shortened the hoses and bled the brakes myself. Most lbs in this area will charge $30/wheel for disk brake service - screw that. I'd much rather do it myself anyways.

so you can't bleed AVIDs as you would an automobile, motorcycle, etc...? i bled my HOPEs this way beautifully. do they have a bleeder valve on the caliper that you can hook up cheap ol' clear tubing??

You'd be hard pressed to bleed them without the kit. The kit has two syringes that screw into the lever and caliper and are used in the process. They bill it as a drip free bleed, but you may get a couple of drips. Drip free is a good thing b/c this is real no-kidding brake fluid in these.

These are nothing like the bleed jobs that I've done in the car - the procedure and system is unique, but both work very well.

They work for me. Try this: go to Price Point's site, click on the big "Blowout" image, click on "Brakes, [et cetera]", and then on "[2005] Avid Juicy 7 XC" (their version of saying "160mm"). Does it work for you now? If you don't go through the blowout dealie, it offers you the old $150 price (kind-of stupid in my opinion).

That is silly as hell - works for me now, but I'm not in the market - already got a set of 7's :D

Oh well, could have saved $20, but then I would have had to pay tax from PricePoint...

i have a question. since the ajuster knob breaks alot. cant you take it off after you use it because in the directions on the website it said you can run the motorcycle style brakes and when you swich the levers you change the knob on the other side of the brake.
