Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
hey guys.....im usually in philly or dc...but for the holiday ill be at home in good ol North Jersey..and its easier for me to get into NY.
can anybody suggest a shop/place for me to go in and get cheap used parts...ive got a questionable cannondale frame that the ****ing roadie shops in my area wont touch...but i want to make an SS errand bike out of it for when i dont feel like clipping into the baby and/or feel like running into curbs etc...
any suggestions? i need a fork, maybe a stem, and some other odds bits...not to mention needing a headset installed....any suggestions for shops that dont ask too many questions with cheap used stuff? let me know
hugs

what's so "questionable" about it?

is it questionable because it is broken? how would a shop know if its hot??

i don't understand this thread.
ebay and/or craigslist are going to be cheaper than almost any shop, but you don't need us to tell you that.

i don't understand what questions they're not supposed to ask. If you mean like stolen stuff can't help you. i f you mean a shop that won't ask you the questions needed to help you get what you need and not some random broken garbage then can't help you.
if you want an honest knowledgeable lbs that sells used stuff then go to busy bee on 6th street between first and a. emey knows all there is to know and has a store and basement full of stuff

i'm hoping he just means the frame is damaged a little, but in his mind still usable...

what's the "no questions" thing? that sounds like it has something to do with theft.
crack aluminum seat tube...up by the clamp...i have a pipe clamp on it so its not going to crack any more....the two shops i brought it to wont even answer questions becuase the are afraid if something happens ill sue them///let alone install a headset
no suggestions? you people and your theft paranoia are sick

your asking for a intimate date with asphalt if you really want to ride that frame.

riding a cracked aluminum frame with a pipe clamp on it to prevent further cracking doesn't sound like my idea of a party, but whatever works for ya... try recycle a bicycle in dumbo for cheap and janky old componentry.

Install the headset yourself.
gosh you guys are helpful...dont have a press and dont know the size...
can i get headest size by just measuring the diameter of the head tube?
i also dont know the BB size
the crack is up by where the seat clamp goes...the idiot last owner used a seat post that was to small and just clamped it down which cause it to crack a little....the crack isnt going anywhere...
i got this fram back whe i was first looking to get fixed 6 months or so before the follis and and i guess almost 2 years before the surly

k wait up dude maybe noone's being that helpful because what you're doing is kindfa foolhardy and you'll get yourself hurt.
otherwise do what i said and go to busy bee. they have the parts. they should help you. but this is the good old us of a and people are litigious and there are lots of folks who won't help you with stuff that's potentially dangerous.
and the way you posed the question sounded shady, which people picked up on.
now we understand what you want you have some answers

if you know the year and model of the frame, you can get full specs by putting www.cannondale.com into the wayback machine at http://www.archive.org. Just click on the appropriate year of Cannondale's archived website. you'll find some dead links, but poke around a bit. I found full specs fr a 96 H700 there.

Is the frame Caad2? I believe they have a lifetime warranty. Call Cannondale if it is and see if you can get a nice new Optimo frame.

the idiot last owner used a seat post that was to small and just clamped it down which cause it to crack a little....the crack isnt going anywhere...
and the idiot current owner is wasting his time on a ****ty crack-n-fail.
plus you're asking questions you can find the answers to very easily--
1) i dunno what size headest....gee it can be 1", or 1-1/8"... oh wait, maybe its cannondale's vintage DH road bike with the 1.5" head tube
2) i dunno what size BB it is.... well are you asking what length spindle, or what size/threading the shell is....either way its something a lil research can solve. dont they teach you college boys anything?

If you live in Northern NJ. go to Marty's Reliable bike shop in Morristown, NJ. I would go there when I use to live there. There was one annoying racer guy(sales) with glasses that I didn't like b/c he was cocky, but the other mechanics where OK.
i ride with the club out of that shop, and i know marty personally (though he may not recognize me), bought my first decent mtb from him and most of the parts for my first fixie...he is a cool guy but the guys in the shop are so so....again...eh.....also..they arent fans of the whole used used used thing.....meh...maybe ill give em another shot
and legalize it...go **** your self....seriously...i dont need barating for a question...i know what i want...i know what is safe for me...if you dont have an answer to my question keep you mouth shut
