Track Cycling: Velodrome Racing and Training Area - IRO Mark V or Specialized Langster '05

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Well I have a delema...

I am looking at buying a new, complete, track bike.

I have been looking at the IRO Mark V for some time but recently found a store in DC that is selling the '05 Langster for 500. This means i can forgo the extra 80-100 dollars for the price of the IRO and shipping. Which is a better deal?

If the Langster comes with brake hoods, and a brake, then it may keep you off tracks that don't allow that, which is most velodromes. Do a search in the Singlespeed/FG forum for a ton of info on these two bikes.

Thats a good deal on that specialized.

I wanted one of those at the start of the year but nobody had them. I got an IRO MarkV. I'm really happy with it and don't regret the purchase.

Cant got wrong either way in my opinion.

Good Luck-
Jim

go for the mark v. i've heard through friends that the langster geometry isn't really that good for the track. plus, you'll get mad cred for owning an IRO ;).

Either is fine. The Specialized Langser is fine for most tracks. Our rental fleet at Hellyer is made up of mostly Langsters.
If you ride one of the steeper tracks, you might want a more "track" geometry bike..but I am not sure the Mark V is that much more "trackish"

If you are a 54, I would check out chucksbikes.com for his Fuji Pro(screaming deal) or the Fuji
