I currently run a Hatta Swan BB on my bike which has a 109mm symmetrical spindle and ISO taper. I'd like to upgrade to Campy Record cranks which use the same taper, but normally mount to BB's with 111mm spindle length.

Is it even possible to mount Campy cranks on the Hatta BB and if so, would this really affect the chainline?

Umm, if they both have the same taper, you can mount them. But, if the crank uses a 111mm bb, and your bb is 109, the chainline will be off by 2mm. :rolleyes:

the hatta swan njs bottom brackets are iso? the r9400? hmm. where did you get this information?

The Hatta is a good match for the Sugino 75/Grand Mighty cranks, but it says nothing in regards to the Campy. The Suginos are JIS, Campy are ISO. That is as much as I was able to determine. Not a solid answer in writing, but just a compilation of info.

I would not run the two (Campy and Hatta) together based on what I have heard - OneTinSloth had posted something a while back in regards to Shimano BB and Sugino Crank compatibility. I paired this with a recent conversation I had with John at Businesscycles (who said Hatta had not informed him of the ISO/JIS compatibility of their BBs).

I don't believe the Hatta BB is ISO - though I don't know if there's an ISO version.

However, you're better off getting the matching Campy BB wit the 111mm spindle length for the cranks. Your chainline will thank you. The cheap $30-40 ACH Campy 111mm BB will do ya just fine.

i didn't think that the swan would be ISO. i mean, it damn well has to be JIS.

in any case, keep your campagnolo cranks a) off any japanese bike (dammit!) and b) if not off the bike, off of that bottom bracket.

depending on the frame somehting is kind of out of place either the cranks or the bb :)

doh! well, looks like i'll be investing in a new BB. do you guys know if the Phil Wood BB that's made specifically for the campy record cranks is the 110.5 spindled "campy only" model? if so, why the .5mm disparity?

FP, yes, the 110.5 one is ISO/campy. not sure about the .5mm difference, but it is symmetrical, and you can adjust the BB a few mms in each direction. i have a 105mm ISO one that i use for my miche cranks (which ideally take a 107mm).
