Road Cycling - Check out these bar-end lights

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I love gadgets. Here is a cool one I just found at Nashbar (see http://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?category=&subcategory=&brand=&sku=7629&storetype=&estoreid= )
These are LED lights that plug into your bar ends. You push them for On/Off/Constant/Blinking.
Price: $20.00 I wouldn't mind some of these in my stocking.
Here is another pic:

They look cool, but the first thing that comes to mind is, if they are blinking and a driver sees only 1 which is likely, are they going to assume you are turning?
They look cool, but I have a wide enough ass that the motorist probably wouldn't see either of them!

The "hoods" should be on top to shield the rider's eyes, shouldn't they? Those do look fun :)
I actualy bought these a couple months ago, I can say when I am pedaling, I can see the light hit my leg half of my stroke on the pedal maybe a bit less. I lost the plugs on my bar's so figured this would be a good addition. THe blink or can be solid, use two watch style batteries and are fairly bright, , I would not use them as my only blinkie, but as a addition I think they work fairly well.
I have mine positioned with the hood at the top, and you can look down and there is a small hole (not really whole but spot where there is clear plastic), so can easily monitor that the lights are turned on.

seems like a good idea, but maybe a solid light would be a bit better since someone might think you are turning or something.

Bar-end lights probably don't work very well, taking into account where it is placed. Why not a bar-end mirror? I think the mirrors would do some good there, you just have to see if there is something behind you right? The small mirrors should do fine.
