I am strongly considering converting my road bike into a singlespeed but i understand i will need horizontal drops. It is a Concorde Prelude frame built with columbus SL tubing. Is it possible for the dropouts to be remade on it or will it mess the frame up. Am i just better off finding a used bike i have at the shop and seeing if one has horizontal cuz i would really like to give singlespeed a try.

What are the advantages to it?

You could have the dropouts replaced by a qualified framebuilder. I had the opposite conversion done to my Fuji Team because I kept yanking the rear wheel loose in the horizontal dropouts (see mechbgon.tripod.com for a photo of what it did to my paint job).

Overall, however, I'd lean toward getting a different frame or else getting a Singleator (a rear un-derailleur that tensions the chain, presuming you're not planning to go fixed-gear). You can probably use the conversion gizmo listed in QBP's catalog to replace the freehub body on your newer wheels with a threaded mount for a single-speed freewheel.

Brian,
Most old 10-speeds had horizontal dropouts. You would probably do better looking for an old Trek, Schwinn, or other quality 10-sp. It would probably be cheaper than changing dropouts.
