That's not the race you posted about last year(?) where people were crashing and landing in cactus plants and stuff, is it?

Here's the web site. The event is a race, but it also attracts non-racing cyclists and is a Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Team in Training event. Each year, the PBAA (the organizers) honors a pro cyclist as "the world's most accomplished cyclist"--this year, it's Jeannie Longo. Greg LeMond and Robbie Ventura (USPS) will be there, and rumor has it Andy Hampsten will be there, too, as well as a list of other well-known and not-so-well-known cyclists.

I don't remember posting about any such thing! HAHA.... It's a road ride and through mostly civilized areas so the cacti falls are kept to minimum. It's actually a lot of fun.

Actually El Tour de Tucson is NOT a race. It's more of a charity perimiter ride. The largest distance is 108 miles and attracts a couple thousand people of all abilities so you're sure to find someone of a comparable skill level to ride with. No racing license is required, just the desire to ride!
