Oh, that's supposed to be "The Pontificator". Somehow my user name in it's entirety won't fit. Oh, well.

Hey! Hi!

After a 30 year absence from riding bicycles I went out and bought a Specialized Hardrock Comp Disc and am getting back into the fun.

I originally started "serious" riding as a teen back in 1974 and was then a L.A.W. member as well as a member of a central Ohio touring club now known as the Licking County Bicycle Club.
Fell into it purely by accident. Another student saw me out riding my bike and asked me if I was interested in a bike ride called a "century".

I didn't know what that was. I soon found out

Over the next three years I put several centuries, half-centuries, a TOSRV (1976), and too many weekly club rides (esp. the "breakfast ride") under my belt. Lawn-moving money was spend on upgrading marginal components, tools, and clothing. My mother's favorite phrase was not "you'll put an eye out!" but "You're going to destroy that bike by strewing it all over the garage floor!" :D

After getting my driver's license bikes became an afterthought then eventually forgotten.

Fast forward 30 years...

Now a burned-out corporate drone beset with weight problems, diabetes, hypertension, and the usual host of mid-life issues I have returned at least in part to a more carefree time.

It's good to be back.

Welcome on behalf of a very friendly forum - there's a lot of good companionship and sound advice to dip into here (if that's not too presumptious for a newcomer to say)

And a welcome from me, a 36 year insulin using diabetic. Not the end of the world!

Cheers
