For My Democratic Friends: "Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2006, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great. Not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country nor the only America in the Western Hemisphere. And without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishee.
By accepting these greetings you are accepting these terms. This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for herself or himself or others, and is void where prohibited by law and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher. This wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings for a period of one year or until the issuance of a subsequent holiday greeting, whichever comes first, and warranty is limited to replacement of this wish or issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the wisher."
For My Republican Friends: Here's wishing all of You a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

I don't celebrate xmas, never have. When someone says, "merry xmas", I say "thanks". When someone says, "happy holidays", I say "thanks". When people ask me why I don't celebrate xmas, they think I'm attacking their beliefs and traditions, but I'm not, I'm simply stating why 'I' don't celebrate it. I don't care what they do.
The problem with political correctness is not with people like me, it's people who run our countries who think I'm sensitive. I'm not sensitive. I hear things a lot worse than "merry xmas". Things like, "nice bike f*g", "u suck", "suck my f***ing d*ck". Those offend me, a bit. "merry xmas" does not.
Oh, and happy holidays to you!

Um... this should be moved to the Politics and Religion forum. But before it gets moved there...
Not all democrats are 'afeared' of Christians and or Christmas. However, some of us realize there are other people in the world. Not all of them are Christian. Not all democrats are athiests (or PC), just as not all republicans are Christians.
And very, very few people (probably two) are trying to take away Christmas from us. One of them tried with the Who's down in Whoville, and he was thwarted by the spirit of the season. You might remember that his heart grew three sizes that day. He was then air-lifted to a hospital where doctors performed emergency open heart surgery. He'll be fine, but that'll teach him for screwing with Christmas.
But if you're looking for Jesus at Wal-mart, you're missing the point. Seriously. They have these buildings called churches. God lives there. Santa lives at Wal-mart. There's a difference.
The world is a big place filled with lots of different people. Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, a lovely Kwanzaa, and a joyous Ramadan to all republicans, democrats, and independents alike. And Happy New Year.
Let's not let divisive political nonsense ruin what should be a time for generosity, reflection, peace and joy for all of us.

No, he's right - it's x-mas. X-mas has no religious connotations. It's about shopping, drinking, eating and more drinking... That's what I celebrate...

Maybe that's "X-mas", but "Xmas", is a legitimately religious abbreviation. The letters "chi" and "rho" (yes, as in Cairo, no coicidence) are the first two in "Christ" in Greek. The symbol for "chi" is very much like an "X". Example (http://www.umcs.org/chrismons/chirho.gif). It also looks like a cross, with all the obvious Christian symbolism attached.
Ahem, I still think the OP was amusing. :)

Agreed. I am Christian but if someone says Happy Hannakua or Kwanza, no matter what it translates to:
[I wish you and your family happiness]

I'm a Christian and Happy Holidays does not offend me in one bit. By the way Happy Holidays was being used as a Christmas Greeting long before the PC movement or the neocons decided to make it an issue.
Happy Holidays everybody!!!!
To my Democratic friends: Merry Christmas! This must be the most pathetic political party in the world. We have been beaten by George W. Bush not once but twice. On top of that we pick a raving lunatic to lead our party. See---> Howard Dean. I think he should run again and pick Tom Cruise as a running mate. They can both jump up and down on the couch and scream their freakin heads off!
To my Republican Friends: I am still a registered Republican. At least I think. I have been sitting in my darkened garage in a state of confusion the last couple years. I voted for George W. (once) and then he lost me somewhere down the road. Actually it was Iraq. He lost me in Iraq. Why is it again, that we are in Iraq? Oh well, who cares? Merry Christmas! (trivia- did you know that Christmas was actually Jesus Christ's birthday?)
to me:
Happy Holidays = All Holidays between Thanksgiving and New Years.
Merry Christmas = Merry Christmas.
Thus I don't have a problem with Happy Holidays until someone specifically uses it in order to not use Merry Christmas. Then I just roll my eyes and go on with my life.

How about celebrating the shortest day of the year with a dark, wet, cold ride? I only saw one other rider on my commute this morning. C'mon, its fun!

I'm a democrat (maybe... I just don't know anymore) and this is funny. Merry Christmas.

Not really. Even if we were to take the two (incompatible with each other) accounts of the birth of Jesus in Matthew and Luke as "Gospel", the birth happened sometime in the spring. The timing of the current celebration is just a continuation of similar pagan holidays that predate Christianity. Ironic, isn't it.

Merry Christmas to you, too, rguysailing.
Or, as the president would say, "Happy holidays."

Yes the timing was made for political religious impact and is not meant to be historical. After so many centuries, it is now traditional. The correspondence with actual date is not important. That may be why it's ancient era, so we wouldn't be distracted by things as actual date.
FYI- accounts are not incompatible at all. There are differences, yes. Incompatible, no. What is really amazing is after 1- stories being told by many different people, 2- stories being told from different perspectives, and 3- being written down for different groups of people to read there are so many similarities.
Can you imagine slvoid and 3 other NTC riders writing a story on riding in NYC during the strike having indentical accounts?
FYI-2 Forget the month, the year is about 4 years off reality, if you want to be picky.
Too long-- Have a [pick one]
... Merry Christmas
... Blessed Christmas
... Happy Hannakah
... Joyous Winter Break
anything but the scrooge's religious secular humanist belief --- Happy spending but don't send a kind word my way, BAH HUMBUG.
