i got sent a copy of the november issue of xpress magazine from san fran (thanks ez) and enjoyed their article on fixie riding. nothing really new.. nicely written. just thought i'd share with y'all.

there's a shot of a bunch or riders outside the victoria theater during the bike film festival but you'll have to pick up a copy to see it (unfortunately it looks like sfsu campus, san fran, and east bay only.)

the dude who got rid of his fixie because it was too trendy is just as big a poser as the kid who buys a white studded belt and an IRO or pista because it is trendy. Seriously, who the **** cares. I'm sorry that a lot of people have realized that it is fun to ride fixed and that what used to be your exclusive province is now an element of pop culture. Oh wait. The fact that you got rid of your fixie becauase it suddenly became cool showed that you never really "got it" in the first place and were only riding one for the image anyway...congratulations, you are the person you hate, you are the original hipster.

articles about how fixed-gear bikes are cool now always say the same old **** over and over again. i'm surprised that this one didn't mention that people who ride them have more tattoos than most people, and drink and smoke too, though. that's usually one of the staples of an article about fixed-gear bikes. huh.

I don't see the problem. Just cause someone discovers the fun of it before you doesn't mean that person owns it. People who want to right fixed are going to keep doing it because they enjoy it. People who ride as a trend are going to quit when their legs get tired or the wind starts blowing and people are walking past them. The truth is, someone always rode fixed before you.

Maybe riding fixed just makes your legs real big-like, and all your regular pants just fit tighter. Yah... I'm going with that answer.

I've been reading this forum a little over two years now. Fixed only seems to be getting bigger. Fine, great, but it's gonna receed at some point.

Maybe when "hipsters" meet "white collar success" and trade their $1000 track bikes for $50k euro/sport/luxury things. That's a good five years out from the current generation, though YMMV.
