Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - done looking for bars, gonna go it alone

I have been searching for some new bullhorns that curve from the cross portion into the horn portion without hard angles, with no success. So, I have decided to flop, heat, bend and then chop some alum bars to get the right form using a pipe bender and torch. Has anyone had any success / failures trying this? Maybe someone may just know of the bars that I am looking for.

this may be a sacrilegious thing to do, but you could flip+chop some track drops. . . .i've seen it done before.

that would be an idea, but then the curvature would be higher at the ends - what i am looking to do is have a crescent with the high point at the stem, curving downward and then curve into the horn portion. it seems that all current/ avialble bars that i have found have angled bedns rather than fliud curves between the sections.

your suggestion though is teh right idea - a major taylor-type cross portion taht would curve into teh horn instead of bend at an angle.

I'm not sure you want to do that with aluminum handlebars. Maybe steel, but aluminum? Imagine what will happen when the bar snaps off in your hand...

+1, it's bad to heat or bend aluminum handlebars.

what everyone else said.... your al bars are most likely heat treated and heating them will structurally alter the metal and make it a lot less rigid.

someone always says this. flipping and chopping a set of track bars is probably one of the best things you can do with them. this and cracking open walnuts, playing it like a didgeridoo, and so on.

that is pretty much the second to the last thing I want to happen - the last being what happens after the bar snaps!

does anyone know of a bar that is shaped like the one I have described? - this of course has very little to do with performance - although one would think that if a bar were to fail, it would at a more severe corner than a curvature. then again, it is nearly impossible that a bar will fail - know from the many crashes, drops, etc...now my fingers are just rambling

Just beg tomity to sell you one of those handle bar bending machines they have over in Japan.

Just turn some Nitto moustache bars the other way. hahahahaaaaaaaaaaa

yeah - I was thinking alum just because it is more plyable, but then again, more prone to failure with major alteration. I have some old steel bars that I am giong to try this on - if it works, I will post the results.
