Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - CHI: Poker Ride 2006

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

edit: here's the new flyer:

Alright, here's the deal:
We're going to meet at 3 PM at the usual place in Wicker Park (http://www.google.com/maps?q=wicker+park+loc%3A+Chicago,+IL&spn=0.004392,0.008256&f=l&cid=41850000,-87650000,12652477290895556880&iwloc=A&hl=en) (by the playground equipment). Spokecard buy-in will be $5, and you'll be dealt a playing card. We'll ride around the city to four bars (TBA), at each of which you'll be dealt another card, have a beer, and socialize with your fellow riders. After the fifth card's been dealt to everyone, whosoever has the highest hand wins! In the event of a tie, we'll have a high-card draw.
Your cards will be marked with your number...no swapping. All proceeds will be split evenly between
The Big Fix (http://www.fixhistio.org/) and the Bicycle Messenger Emergency Fund. (http://www.bicyclemessenger.com/)
Obviously, it's more of a social ride than a race...an opportunity to be cool to everyone before you try to obliterate them on the Tour Da Chicago.
I'm in the process of securing prizes. Brent at Phil Wood has already hooked us up, I've waiting to hear from some others (if any of our resident framebuilders/industry folk want to toss anything in, it'd be greatly appreciated---send me a PM). Depending on what all we collect, there may be prizes for categories (TBD) other than highest hand, but don't count on it. Do it for the comradery, the fun, the beer, and the spokecard! (You know you need more.)
Here's my question to you: I'm torn between Sunday, January 1 and Monday, January 2, and I want to know which people would prefer...everyone's got stuff going on (I know monkey, 0.00 are already going to ride on Monday, for instance), and I want as many people as possible to be able to make it. This isn't a BF-only thing, nor a FGSS-only thing, but you know I wanna see you guys. Aww...

Finally, he has seen the light. Dumb arse.
I'd much rather do the poker ride. I would even be willing to do
both. I won't be back in town until later Sunday, so really Monday's
the only option for me.

I work on Monday. I was going to have a late start so I could do the ride with Monkey. So if it's on Monday there will be no riding for me.

No, it's called a sick day!
Monkey--I might be interested in doing the "knife" earlier and then the poker ride later, or just the former. Anyway, Monday.

Bummer - I've got that whole week off, but there's a 99.99% chance I won't be down there...

SR - Filter is right across from the doubledoor on Milwaukee. You should go on the ride with us.
Rookie, gett off your arse!
Does anyone know how amtrak feels about bikes?
They'll take the bike. It costs $10 for a bike box at the station and you check it. I forget if you have to pay extra for the actual bike or not. It could be $10-$15/$20 total. If you can get a bike box or have a box, then no worries.

Naz are you in?
I might be - I'm definitely in for the Poker Ride and I'll be there. Depending on how harsh NYE is and the day after, I may be up for the knife route since I want to do it. I'll post here or see you there if I'm in.
