Introductions - From the "Racing Capitol of the World"

Indianapolis....

A retired racer who lived in Belgium for a while, saw Eddy win a TdF, and was watching bike racing before it was cool...it's nice to see a place to converse about a great sport! Now rides recreationally (somewhere between 30 and 50 miles a day with the upper end being when time allows), but still reads Velonews and CycleSport and thanks the good Lord for Phil Liggett, Paul Sherwin and OLN!!!

I love open wheel auto racing (IRL, CART, Formula 1, and the World of Outlaws) and the NHRA when not riding my Cannondale (Saeco team issue) and following USPS Pro Cycling.

Hi and welcome. I guess you can tell by my avatar that I am inclined towards NASCAR. Watching - Not participating.

Jeffie fan...I watched him drive sprints and midgets before he was old enough to shave. Grew up about 20 minutes west of where I live.

Hey, sounds like you have a lot of neat stuff to share here. I noticed you're in Indianapolis now. Ever visit the velodrome, there?

I have never ridden there (no track bike) but I attended the Pan Am Games, and numerous national competitions that have been held there. I crewed for an Indy Car team for a little while and one of the guys raced go karts on the apron at MJT. I helped him with that.

Very cool. I've been out there twice now for national championships. Which ones have you attended?

This past summer there was a national junior meet held out there, and I went one afternoon/evening.

About 10 years ago they had a big national meet out there, this was back when Roger Young was in charge of the place. Connie was still racing...Nelson Vails, those folks were racing and US track racing was very stout.

The collegiate championships were held out there...the little college across the street from MJT, Marian College, dominates in collegiate track cycling.

A few years ago there was a US vs Russia meet, and I dropped in on that.

Then you probably saw me! I raced every evening session. Very cool! I hope you enjoyed the racing. :)

I did. I won't ask you who you are, but how did you do? What events did you compete in?

I need to get a track bike and try that out.:D

I won the 15-16 omnium. I successfully defended my nat. champ's jersey. :) I raced in all the evening sessions, in all of the 15-16 races (500-meter TT, 2k scratch, 5k scratch, and 15k points race).

Go out and get a track bike! It's very cool. :D

Well, now I know who you are...you are one quick rider!

You are way past me...I made it to CAT II. Mostly crits and some light stage racing. The kind where you race on a Saturday, long point to point race...Sunday TT, then finish with a crit. I got tired of crashes and injuries, so now I just do about 30-50 miles per day in a park by my home (Eagle Creek..you may have been there when you were here..it's a huge park, I can do one lap of 15 miles) and go watch people like you..:D

So, is the Olympics in your future? And it looks, from the website that you also race road? Which do you like better?

Hey, cat 2 is good! Especially for road racing, too.

I was in a big park with my group when I was in Indy this summer. I have no idea what the name was though...

Olympics? Hey, you never know! I have some goals before hand though, Jr. Worlds, Worlds, etc. I do race the road. Maybe about a year ago, I would have said I like the road better, but I think track has caught up. I'm concentrating a lot on the pursuit now, and I really enjoy it.

Most folks don't know where DePanne is. On the coast (North Sea/English Channel) near Knokke and Blankenberghe (very near the French border) in Belgium.
Have ridden the Major Taylor 'drome on a tandem: fast!

Indy huh? I'm so jealous, me and a bunch of my buddies down here at VT are huge F1 fans. I wish i could get up there to see the US Grand Prix this year with them, but don't think i'm going to be able to.
