Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Neophyte Courier needs new ride.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I started a courier job but need a new ride since mine is not suited for the messenger business at all. Does anyone have any suggestions for frame types or brands. I live in SF so it should be able to tackle hills but take the MUNI tracks with ease. I'm about 5'5" but I don't know what size I should be buying since I've never been sized and just used the hand-me-downs. Thanks guys.

click the [SPAM!] link over there ------>
ask the mods to move this to singlespeed/fixed-gear forum--lotta messers hangout there
specify if you do/don't want gears, and make sure to mention it's a WORK bike
good luck
Thanks. Sorry, I'm just finding my way around this forum. I hope I don't irk too many die hards.

Don't worry, Katio. The SS/fixie guys are a tolerant, loving bunch.

hahahahahahahaha!
What don't you like about your current bike? My feeling is that the most important thing about a work bike is that it be FUN! If your bike is no fun to ride, then you won't be a messenger long. That's why I ride a fixed gear. If you want a fixed gear, you must check out IRO. Can't help you on the size. Good luck.

I'm 5'5" and ride a 49-51cm frame size.

I certainly don't mind answering the question in this forum, but I fail to see how it's off topic in the roadbike forum.
The OP wants a multispeed workbike to ride on the road. A decent lightish MTB with smooth tires should do the trick nicely. A triple might come in handy when tackling tthe SF hills loaded. I rode an old Raleigh with a 6spd freewheel and 1.26x26 for years made a great city commuter. A six speed will also be less desireable to knowledgeable theives, but not particularly less useful as a workbike than current 8/9/10 speed drivetrains.

Maybe not delete, but there are two threads on this here now...
I'm so out of the loop. Ok guys, this thread is being closed, but you can continue the conversation here. (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=161607)
Cheers.
