at least they had the decency to release it with a streetable gear ratio.
wheels aren't half bad either.
edit - and thank god it's a good ratio because it would be hard as eff to find replacement rings for that crank.

Could someone post the pic and description here?
Flash doesn't work on my computer. :/

wait a second.
this looks exactly like the artschool/design bike that absntr posted a while ago. right down to the 4-arm-spider cranks.
except grey instead of green
you know, the one with the photoshopped quads?

I think that Jamis is actually a fairly nice fixed gear offering.

that jamis doesn't look half bad at all.
its $800.00. for whats in it, id spend the extra money and take one of them over the Bianchi pista anyday
agreed on the a jamis... if i was gonna get any of these factory fixies i'd go with that.
also, why can't any of these things get some f'n color in em! spice things up! all this grey and black... even the new "green" on the pista is a muddy brownish grey green.

agreed. the black on black trend in cycling bums me out some.
the bland color offerings of trek and cannondale and other big names are nothing to write home about either.
maybe it's backlash against bikes of 8-10 years ago... italian frames with the classic red-white-green-blue-yellow fade jobs and bling silver componentry.

the jamis is pretty nice.
i saw the alta print campaign in ARCHIVE awhile back... good campaign, weird looking bike

the bars on the alta,,,
don't you think they look kind of silly?
i'm sure leveling the bars gives you some leverage up hills and such,
but special funiture design team aside, i prefer to have at least some drop in my bullhorns
that jamis sure is looking hot
for real... yum
and i think its a little early to tell,
but preliminary reports coming in indicate that the UNO isn't going to do much
that junk is whack
now if they put those on the shelves of our local walmart/target/bestbuy/cashfarm,,
i bet we'd see a bunch of them on the streets regardless of how they look
then again, i ride a mercier kilo tt
i supose that means i can't really say sh*t can i?

That Jamis looks really nice. Make way for "Jamis Sputnik vs. ..." threads. :)

thanks in advance.

god! the photos on that site are gross
i thought we were going to be talking about trek. has it already been talked about that there is a "track" listing on their website?
http://www2.trekbikes.com/bikes/category.php?c=1
on the right between cyclocross and tandem. it doesn't lead anywhere yet, though.

I think those Bontrager wheels are hot.
That said, what a ripoff. 850 pounds sterling? I can't imagine passing up a Bob Jackson or a Mercian for this.
It looks like the Fuji Track Pro.

that trek may seem ugly to all you (us) classic/lugged steel/high flange/chrome/1" threaded/quill posengers, but i bet it's one em-effing fast bike on the track.
yeah, that trek looks more like a bike bound for the track than a a fixed gear urban assault vehicle like the others

Fuji Track Pros, for what it's worth, are made in Taiwan. Or so claim the shipping label and frame sticker.
Integrated headsets and paired spoke wheels make me want to smash something.

Am I the only one who thinks 46x18 is a weak-ass gear?
Fugazi Dave
12-23-05, 09:08 AM
Probably not, but there are others with an opposing view on it, too. I run 45x18 and I'm ******** fast on it. Nothing weak about it.
Oh yeah - and any bikes made in China are actually part of a long-lived directive established by Chairman Mao, through which the capitalist societies of the world would be undermined by way of the production of bicycles.

Yep, pretty ok with that.

OK, Ok....I am a shameless hipster. At least until my countryclub
membership gets approved and my monogrammed golf putters come in,
but, I think that Alta is the coolest bike Ive seen in a while.......
Tony, please answer my email soon before I .....................:roflmao:
That Jamis doesn't offer 165 cranks.
I'm a fan of walker cycles ... I'm also a fan of globalism.
But mostly I try to not think too hard about those things and just like to ride my bike.

that shut it down pretty quick....jamis is hot, Uno looks like poo, Alta is just wierd and arty, trek, blech to the hydroformed tubes I'd rather a Track pro over one of them any day....off to put the miles in on the trainer

i actually really like the looks of the trek. it's sexy as hell. and yes, i think that 46-18 is a "weak ass gear"
if you cannot spin the **** out of 46x18 and get up to 25-30 on flats, then you are a weak ass. ratios aren't weak -- riders are.

Yeah, I'm with hotpants on this one. 70" gear is just about ideal for the street, if you know how to spin.

Word! I run a 69.8inch gear, and anyone who thinks it's lame will get wasted at the stoplight, 'cuz acceleration is where it's at yo!

12-23-05, 05:17 PM
i used to run a 40-15...yes, i know how to spin...now i ride a 52-17...i'd personally rather push than spin out...it's easier to stop down hills when your feet aren't going all crazy. i like control. that is why i'm edge. (at least that's what i'm told.)
-jason (not trying to start another message board fight...I'm just sayin' is all.
That trek would look way cooler w/o the decals.

Bah, sally. I actually have no beef with the spinners and usually I rock 48/17 or 48/19 when I'm feeling kinda energetic.
PS: I smoked D_Nast up and down and up and down the manhattan bridge with 52/17. He rocks a way smaller gear.
