Another vote for Local Hero.

I just remembered another semi-obscure favorite: Dead Man. What a movie.

"Laws of Gravity" a low-budget flick made in Brooklyn directed by NIck Gomez. About Irish types trying to wheel and deal on the streets. A brutally honest flick about the jungle of the streets. It was Peter Greene's first movie.

Waiting...

With Ryan Reynolds, and some other people. It's a funny movie.

Get it on Netflix.

Another Jarmusch movie: Ghost Dog.

What a great flick. (This thread is so old I may be repeating ones from earlier)

Soldier of Orange, 1977, Directed by Paul Verhoeven with Rutger Hauer; Dutch, subtitled in English. Good WW2 story.

Dark City.
Awesome flick. I also enjoyed "Gattica" for similar reasons.
Oh, and I love "Ed Wood". Landau's Lugosi is fabulous.

What happened to Verhoeven? His output in Hollywood has been
grotesque.

"The Ledgend of the Seven Golden Vampires" Kung-fooing, karate chopping vampires, Von Helsing and all, mild eroticism. The special effect when a vampire dies is worth the price of admission. Saw it in Africa 30+ years ago. Might be under another name now.

Wizards, animation with very strange live-action spliced in, the parting words from the good wizard at the end are so perfect
God of Cookery, by the director of Shaolin Soccer, a parody of the iron chef type cooking shows which is genuinely funny and odd
Genesis, documentary about evolving life, you don't need to be high to trip off this one it's spacy!

The original El Mariachi, not the craptastic remake with Antonio Banderas.

Fantastic movie.

How about:

FEAR OF A BLACK HAT
Pandemonium
Midnight Madness (the "fagabeefee" scene is classic)
