Bicycle Mechanics - Bling Bling Unfamiliarity

My Aunt (who I am visiting) recently got a fancy trek roadbike, knows nothing about bikes, and want me to look it over, show her how to fix flats, etc.

The chain has some goopy tacky stuff on it--could it be that tacky non-lube stuff that some higher end chains are shipped in?? I always use triflow and cheap (generic!) chains, but I recall hearing you fancy-bike-riding folks talking about chain grease shot into the rollers by shimano under pressure? Or is it wax lube? The bike is new, and the drivetrain is clean, but I want to know whether I need to tell my aunt to take it back to the shop she bought it from and have the chain cleaned and lubed properly.

To all you Raleigh NC folk (where my aunt is), the bike was purchased from "Cycling Spoken Here." Anyone know anything about that shop (Rev.Chuck?!?!). Are they a good LBS or scam artists? The rear wheel (Bontrager semi-boutique 24spoke 1x) is out of true, but not badly, and the chain may or may not be lubed properly, making me a little bit suspicious. Should I tell her to stay with that shop, or head over the Rev.Chucks shop when the warranty runs out?

Other than that, I am giving her the URL of Bikeforums.net, so that when she has a problem with something, she can bother you (us) guys. I am also telling her about parktool.com and sheldonbrown.com.

Well, Duh. You know Rev. Chuck's bona fides from his posts here. You're asking about the other shop because you don't know. Let's see: "Real good guy vs. don't know". That wouldn't be a hard decision for me to make.

Cycling Spoken Here is a first rate LBS. One of my favorites. I'm amazed that they sent a bike out of their shop with the cozmoline still on the chain. Also, she should STAY with Cycling Spoken Here. In my experience, they will make it right at no cost to her. However, I would take the bike back to them ASAP so there is no doubt the truing issue occurred when the bike was new, not from her riding it. By the way, she has lifetime free tune-ups with that LBS. In my experience, and we purchased a TREK MTB from them, they are excellent. Also, please let us know if she purchased her bike at the Apex shop or the Cary shop. For your info, the Cary shop is sort of their headquarters.
With regard to Rev.Chuck, I thought I knew all the LBSs in the Raleigh/Cary area. I never heard of them so I can't comment about their service. Hope this helps, and have a Merry Christmas.
