Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Finally got a fixed cog

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Got a Dura Ace cog and lockring from Santa this morning :D I was pretty stoked (sp?) so I went out and put it on. Tightened it down (greased of course) as good as I could. Then I remembered my front brake was broken (been riding on a freewheel). I was a little skeptical that I would not be able to stop and I would kill myslef, but I went out anyway :) To my suprise it's not all that hard to stop w/o a brake. I might have it wrong, but to stop you just put resistance on the pedals right? If there is a better way, fell free to post a link or whatever. I'm riding w/ clipless by the way, don't have any toe straps.
well off to ride, screw grandma's :D

if that is working for you, do that for now, but if you are going to be riding without a brake, i suggest you very quickly learn how to skip (skidding is for show). but yeah, that's the gist of it. and if you just tightened the cog and lockring by hand, get to a shop in the morning and have them tighten that **** down.

edit: gettin' my spell on.

also, get some toeclips or clipless pedals if you're gonna ride brakeless, you're less likely to kill yourself that way.
