For xmas, my parents agreed to sell our truck and give me $1500 for a new bike! :D Finally I got that ugly thing out of the driveway!
The best part is, I'm going shopping tomorrow for a new bike!

I don't think this young dude wants a fuddy-duddy commuter. He wants something a little faster, flashier, sexier. Probably carbon or ti, not steel.

You can ride a good pushy without it getting stolen. You just gotta take precautions. Always lock it up, never leave it locked up for more than 1/2 an hour, without checking up on it, lock it up in a very public place with lots of pedistrian traffic, get a sturdy and decent lock that uses a key (not a combination).

The ability to leave a bicycle locked and unattended for extended periods is the joy of utility cycling. The bicycle posted by the OP will require carrying the most expensive locks in the industry. (New York 3000 and/or Chain). I've left my scratched Univega Hybrid on the streets for 3 to 5 hours at a time without any concern because it appears unattractive to the unintelligent eye.

I disagree with your statement on leaving that bike in full view of pedistrian traffic. That simply means it will attract the criminal element who know right away no one will say anything if they make an attempt to break your locks with industrial tools. The bicycle in the picture should be hidden from all eyes and never locked to a bike rack.

My thought is that the Felt is not that practical for utilitarian riding, and it is thievable for sure. BUT bicycles can be fun too, people! And this bike would probably be funner than most, so more power to him. Obviously if bike756 wants advice on a specific performance bike, he should check in on a different forum.

I have other bikes for getting around. The felt is purely for recreational purposes.

agreed. lugged steel is ****ing sexy. track bikes are ****ing sexy, and they're a blast to ride.

i wouldn't say carbon or ti or al is "stupid", just different. i'd still push for a lugged steel track bike. you could sure get a good one for 1500 bucks.
