General Cycling Discussion - Four person bicycle?

You can often rent these at tourist destinations near bike trails. I've seen lots of them, never ridden one.

It's been on overstock.com for like 6 months.

Yes, it is a quadracycle, (a bicycle for four people that has two wheels). On a quadracycle, or quad, each rider is seated behind one another. I noticed this while doing the Trek Across Maine last year.

I realize I'm a little slow getting to some of these threads, but I just joined and I have a MILLION questions about quads. One of them being.... WHERE/HOW do you park these things? Do you just leave it in the parking lot, or chain it to a parking lot light post? Or, what?

Aren't you assuming that it would be a bad thing is somebody stole it? I'm not so sure that's the case.

I wonder how the actual efficiency would be on one of these things? Does anyone out there have experience pedalling one as the sole operator? (in contrast to being a soul operator).

If it works maybe we can get our elected officials to trade in their black Suburbans and limos and ride these instead. I can just see Obama in January riding down Pennsylvania Ave in one of those.

I don't think so. The bi- or tri- refers to the number of wheels. Bike, Trike, Quad. A triplet tandem bicycle has 3 people and 2 wheels. A quad tandem bicycle would have 4 people and 2 wheels.

Actually, I'm looking for a quadracycle, so I'm curious, because I would like to know more about how others deal with the new issues they create. I doubt you can just pull up and chain it to the bike rack. Well, maybe the end of the bike rack... assuming the place you're going HAS a bike rack.
