Hi All,

Finally.... just bought a used tandem with low milage on it. It's '02 Trek T1000, I believe the first model (with T2000) when Trek re-enter the tandem market, which I'm sure you've seen them before (but hey, I did search for T1000 pictures/info/manual but no luck so far). Appreciate very much if you guys and girls have them in softcopy/pdf file and share with me.

It comes with its standard components as spec'd. I should keep them until get feeling to replace with a better one (might be from my single bike). It might be those Avid brakes need to be replaced immediately since it squealing under hard braking.

As a newbie, I plan to practice with my wife on the trainer (Minoura RDA850 rimdrive) before hitting the road. We are light team (300 lbs) plus the bike weight 44 lbs roughly.

Do you think the trainer can stand both of us plus tandem bike? Just mount/unmount, start/stop, coasting and slow pedalling. Anyone practice this method before?

Appreciate your comments and suggestions.

Cheers

We have a cycle ops fluid trainer, winter comes and we put our tandem on it just to keep practicing and staying in shape, we put it thru the teat and still no problems with it

From a previous post responding to a similar question:

You should avoid using a fancy alloy rear skewer as trainers like yours hold the bike by the skewer ends. A front wheel block is also recommended for leveling the tandem. Mounting is accomplished the same as usual with Captain first & Stoker second; however, you may need to build a platform to stand on when mounting (a couple 2x4's nailed together make for a nice platform) given that the tandem will be a few inches higher than normal. Moreover, exercise care when mounting to keep your weight centered over the frame as much as possible to prevent the tandem and trainer from tipping over. When riding, DON'T try to stand and hammer out of the saddles as the trainer and tandem can begin to tilt from side-to-side and could conceivably fall over. Otherwise, these will support most in-home training regimes.

Thanks All,

I dropped the plan to clamp the tandem on my trainer after receiving email from Minoura Reps warning they only rated for 200-225 pounds.

Your cycle ops fluid trainer is tyre-drive type, I guess while mine is rimdrive. Thanks for sharing, 24theroad.

And thanks TandemGeek for the info.

Finally we rolled the tandem outside and start pedaling in neighborhood. It was so smoooooth first-time-on-tandem experience. We feel sync'd all the time except when pedal up the hill. I tend to spin as I do on my single but my stoker loose her grip on her pedals. We are still using pedal platform, not change to clipless yet.

Oh and one incident....my pedals hit the speeding curb on the road, it was a bit longer than usual speeding curb. I thought we are over the curb already and said "pedal" but found the rear still behind.

Cheers

That would be a problem. We also use a CycleOps Fluid II for the tandem; darn stout.
