So, any good sites online that have flags and flag holders for Recumbents? Any variety other then standard?
Also any good sites for Recumbent accessories?
Sharon
Lot of recumbent riders I see have yellow balloons taped to a wooden dowel rod. THe wooden dowel rod is attached to the seat with duct tape. It is big bright and yellow. Everyone on the highway, bike trail or sidewalk will see you when you ride a recumbent with yellow balloons.

Nah.. don't care for balloons. Would rather have a flag and something that looks nice and maybe a flag I could change/seasonally etc?

I also was looking for something different in a flag. Finally I discovered this site: http://www.raindropkites.co.uk/banners/index.html
Helen, who makes all the kites, banners and flags, is very knowledgeable about recumbents, having ridden a Speedy trike in the past. With her advice, we designed a flag for my trike which she made at a very reasonable price. Here it is:

I'm sure she would post to the States.

My flags all come from my local marine store, they have almost all EU countries' flags and more. When get around town, I have a bright dayglo triangle. When I tour, I put my country's flag on the bike. When I cross borders, I add the flag of the country I'm in next to it. The flag poles are regular telescopic white glass fiber rods you can find at the local bike shop to put on kids' bikes (same as the one supplied with BOB trailers). I have 2 bottom rods permanently attached to the bike's rear rack, as flagpole mounting points, and I attach the rod(s) with the flag(s) I want to them.
You can find marine stores almost everywhere, near the sea of course but also along rivers and canals that bear commercial traffic.

Does she ship overseas? I found a flag type I like of hers, and have e-mailed her about making a custom one like it. Any particular size/shape I need to stick with?
Thanks for info on marine flags. I will have to check into that.

Pigasus your flag looks nice. It doesn't look like it would create to much wind resistance. I may have to get me something like that.

Lot of recumbent posters I read here have yellow balloons taped to their ego. The ego is attached to marginal attempts at humor. It is boring, dull and repetitive. Everyone on the internet, newsgroups or bulletin boards will see you when you post your moronic witticisms with yellow balloons.

As far as size goes there are a couple of things to bear in mind. First, how long is your flag pole? My flag is 30" long so that it fits perfectly on the upper (removable) part of my pole. Second, the larger a flag is the more wind resistance and noise it will make. That's why I had streamers added to my flag in place of having a larger flag itself.
Did you see the 6 cats flag? Helen has made that up smaller for using on a 'bent.
I'm sure Helen will ship flags overseas as they pack up quite small. However, you would do better to buy your poles locally as due to their length they can be a real problem to ship. So find your pole first and then finalise flag size with Helen based on the pole's length and diameter.

I prefer windsocks to flags. Catch the Wind (www.catchthewind.com) has a number of cool things. As far as holding them to the bike, I use zip ties and an old fiberglass tent pole.

At present I have two flags on my trike, a tall one that is used on mopeds and a 'Flash Flag'. It is sold under the name Flash Flag, look it up on the internet. The Flash Flag is mounted on a spring and in the wind, waves all around. I mounted mine to the back of my seat on the left side, and it is an attention getter.
Also today, I received in the mail the new one that I will be installing on the back of my trike this next Spring....it is a reflective yield symbol....tis made to be worn on your back. I however, will mount mine on my back pack bag that I have on the back of my trike. This yield sign is very bright and visible both at night and day time.....check it out at Safety Central on the internet....when it comes to being seen by the auto drivers, we need all we can get to 'wake up' the car drivers.
